rob139 Posted September 12, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica Solms is installing a new sensor in my M8. What I would like is that the picture counter continues where it left off. Is that at all possible, is it possible to change the counter in the camera? Leica Customer Service tell me that with the new sensor a new circuit board is installed, and with that the count starts new at L100 0001. I dislike the idea that I will get stuck with different pictures with identical numbers. Still, is it possible to continue counting, or is it even better to change the count to for instance L200 0001? And if it is possible, how? Thanks for your input, Rob
Advertisement Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Hi rob139, Take a look here New sensor, continuing picture count?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mjh Posted September 12, 2011 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2011 When you get your camera back, put in a card with the last image you took prior to the sensor swap, take another picture, and the camera will carry on numbering files where it left off. rob139 Posted September 12, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted September 12, 2011 Now that's easy, thanks! Rob
framestore Posted September 13, 2011 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2011 IMHO, you'll loose 2nd value if the counts continue.
jaapv Posted September 13, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 13, 2011 Sorry? You mean second hand value? No - certainly not, as the count on the SD card has nothing to do with the number of actuations - that is stored as unique image ID in EXIF.

And if it is possible, how? Yes, you can change the starting file number. I did that to my M8 when I first bought it to start L1280001 to differentiate my D-Lux-3 which already captures pictures with file numbers L1000001 onward. Sorry I forgot each step how to do it because it's been a few years back. It was easy. I read throught the instruction and did it through the camera's menu. Hope it helps. Jaap, that is interesting, do you think this unique image ID in EXIF will continue with the new sensor and circuit board? This of course is valid for the shutter which isn't replaced... lct Posted September 14, 2011 Share #9 Posted September 14, 2011 Probably not.
mjh Posted September 14, 2011 Share #10 Posted September 14, 2011 do you think this unique image ID in EXIF will continue with the new sensor and circuit board? I would suppose so (since most of the electronics won’t be replaced), but there’s just one way to find out.
lct Posted September 14, 2011 Share #11 Posted September 14, 2011 Probably not. Why do you say this?
lct Posted September 14, 2011 Share #12 Posted September 14, 2011 Why do you say this? Because i did not know Michael's advice above. Better rely on him (but don't repeat it to LCT).

rob139 Posted September 14, 2011 Author Share #15 Posted September 14, 2011 I guess I will just have to check it myself. Don't know how to reach these EXIF data, but will cross that bridge when I come to it. In the mean time there is nothing else to do but to wait for the repair to be finished, and camera returned. I just might get into whatever LCT is doing...
