adan Posted May 23, 2018 Share #2621 Posted May 23, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) On a US Navy enlisted [Ceremonial or Service Dress] uniform collar there are two stars. Unless they are secretly embroidered somewhere, I think the stars are no longer on the standard day-to-day coveralls or NWU or Dinner Dress - the "swabby look" ain't what it used to be. But an interesting historical detail - thanks.

wlaidlaw Posted May 23, 2018 Share #2623 Posted May 23, 2018 (edited) Chalmette, Louisiana Chalmette Battlefield Beauregard House. War of 1812 fame. On a US Navy enlisted uniform collar there are two stars. They signify the two times Britain was removed from America at gunpoint. 1812 was one of them. Correct your turn. Was there on a sunny but freezing cold day this February. I think the full name of the house is the Malus-Beauregard House from the first two occupants, the widow Malus and Judge Rene Beauregard (I always felt he should have an "e" on the end of his name). House built in 1830, after the plantation was broken up and sold off. We could not go round it as it is currently being restored. It had recently been fumigated and you could only enter with a respirator. Wilson PS The only reason the USA won that battle was because one of the British officers, who had been detailed to bring the fascines and boarding ladders, got so drunk the night before, that he forgot, The troops got to the ditch and bank and could neither cross the ditch without fascines nor scale the bank without ladders. At that time, officers in the British army bought their commission, so that promotion was on the size of your bank account not ability. The British navy which promoted on ability, was considerably more successful. Amazingly this practice in the army, was not abolished until 1871. wlaidlaw Posted May 24, 2018 Share #2625 Posted May 24, 2018 It took a beating during Hurricane Katrina. I can imagine. The damage from Katrina was very evident on the river banks. We went to a ballet (American in Paris) at the beautifully restored Saenger Theatre.

stuny Posted June 1, 2018 Share #2631 Posted June 1, 2018 I assume the bars are to prevent people form getting in rather than getting out, and it's probably an historic site, probably in the US SW.
