mikemgb gets the prize, whatever the prize is. Saint-Michel fountain, in Place Saint-Michel, opposite Notre Dame on the left bank of the Seine.

A walk-around in London's finance district 3 years ago was how I came to recognize the previous subject - funny how tourists sometimes know our cities better than we ourselves.

I guess the prize is to post another photo, I came across this building on a trip a month ago.

Not Pennsylvania, but in the USA. This photo was taken at the beginning of May but the snow was related more to altitude than latitude, this building is at 2200m/7200feet.

It had a fairly famous resident for a few years in the 1890s.

Hello Mike,

The only reasonably well known person who I can think of who might have lived in the mountains of the USofA where it would snow in early May would be Theodore Roosevelt who would most likely have lived not that far away from what would become Yellowstone Park today.

Since I think the only other reasonably well known person, who I can think of, who might have been willing to live where it might still snow in early May was, I think*, living in Connecticut at that time.

And interestingly visiting a person, on occasion, who was then living walking distance from where I am writing this.

Best Regards,

Michael

* There are a lot of "I think"s in this sentence.

There are some high plateaux in the USA that experience late snow. Also, your phrase "willing to live" bears thinking about.

It's late evening my time, I'll post another photo in the morning if some more clues are necessary.

What appear to be an antique "Black Maria" parked out front, an elevated guard shack, and something about the "institutional" stonework and red trim, tell me "prison." Probably a museum at this point. And snow in May plus 2200m elevation say "Old West."

1890s? Is there a hole in its walls? ;)

Adan

You are correct in Old West and prison, it is a museum these days, although the broom factory the prisoners used to work in still functions as a business.

There were apparently many holes in these walls, but the famous resident served his full time.

I'm going to post one more photo, if nobody can get closer than Adan by morning I will reveal the answer and pass the torch to him. However, if I should win one of these again I can't guarantee not to post a picture of a building just as obscure.  :)
