Michael Hiles Posted October 16, 2015 Share #862 Posted October 16, 2015 There is a link with Rubens, and the largest ceiling of its kind, in the world.
Michael Hiles Posted October 20, 2015 Share #863 Posted October 20, 2015 This is getting stuck - this is now so stale that I am going to have to guess. Could this be the place with the largest fan-vault ceiling in the world?
Michael Hiles Posted October 20, 2015 Share #864 Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) This is getting stuck - this is now so stale that I am going to have to guess. Could this be the place with the largest fan-vault ceiling in the world? Ah, yes it is. And Stephen Hawking lives and works in the neighbourhood. (come on folks, step right up. Now it is easy) Edited October 20, 2015 by Michael Hiles
stuny Posted October 20, 2015 Share #865 Posted October 20, 2015 Chapel of Kings College, in Cambridge. I had never seen images of a fan vault ceiling before. Thank you for exposing me to it. Beautiful.
Michael Hiles Posted October 20, 2015 Share #866 Posted October 20, 2015 Hi Stuart, Right on the money. It is the Chapel of Kings. There is the most magnificent Rubens just behind the high alter, and its men and boys choir is one of the 2-3 best in the world. Every Christmas Eve at 4:00 pm their time, they do (and broadcast worldwide) a service of 9 lessons and carols. The opening hymn is always "Once In Royal David's City", and the first verse is sung solo by one of the boys. No one knows which boy will sing until the moment they start - the choir director tells his choice, the boy steps forward and the service starts. It is always magnificent. war Posted October 21, 2015 Share #870 Posted October 21, 2015 Thanks for this shot of the unique Neo-Gothic parish church of San Miguel Archangel in San Miguel Allende, Mexico. Nice to see a masterpiece that exists outside of Europe! The building is a hybrid invention that displays very little Colonial Spanish influence with it’s parts taken from German Gothic with Moorish minarets and in pink stone. Cool. stuny Posted October 23, 2015 Share #873 Posted October 23, 2015 I haven't a clue, but let's start with this: Spain?
Michael Geschlecht Posted October 23, 2015 Share #874 Posted October 23, 2015 Hello Everybody, Or, perhaps Central Asia? Best Regards, Michael
war Posted October 23, 2015 Share #875 Posted October 23, 2015 Sorry, not Spain or Central Asia. The bottom half has been cropped to avoid obvious clues.
Musotographer Posted October 24, 2015 Share #876 Posted October 24, 2015 Not a clue either, but maybe China? Best wishes, Christopher
war Posted October 24, 2015 Share #877 Posted October 24, 2015 Not China. To help narrow it down a bit: Not East Asia or Middle East, in fact not Asian continent in it's entirety.
masjah Posted October 24, 2015 Share #878 Posted October 24, 2015 Maybe having a senior moment here, but I have a vague recollection of seeing an image of this building (or something in a very similar style indeed) previouslky in the Photo Forum. war Posted October 24, 2015 Share #879 Posted October 24, 2015 I don't recall seeing it in the "Do you know this building" thread, but I could be wrong (as seniors often are). I would be surprised though if this hasn't shown up somewhere in the Leica Photo Forums as it's a really unique building, fun and challenging to photograph in it's crowded environment.
