Michael Geschlecht Posted October 10, 2015 Share #845 Posted October 10, 2015 Hello Mustographer, Could we be somewhere in Hungary?Best Regards, Michael
war Posted October 10, 2015 Share #846 Posted October 10, 2015 Don't get the "desserts" reference but this is Sicilian Baroque, so let's say Sicily.
Musotographer Posted October 10, 2015 Share #847 Posted October 10, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well Hungary also has some connections between architecture and patisserie, but this is the Sicilian version - on an island connected (just) to the much larger one. war Posted October 10, 2015 Share #848 Posted October 10, 2015 Ok,we're now on the Sicilian Island of Ortygia and that ubiquitous Italian pastry must actually be called the Cannoli Siciliani. Should have just shown us a photo of one of those delicious treats and we'd have come up with this church immediately, rather than trying to decode that coat of arms or figure out why an Italian church has atypical iron balconies. Anyone want to fill in the missing blank? I'm Hungary.
Musotographer Posted October 10, 2015 Share #849 Posted October 10, 2015 Nearly there. There's a late work by a great artist in this church.....
war Posted October 10, 2015 Share #850 Posted October 10, 2015 Caravaggio's Burial of Santa Lucia is what people come there for, but they stay for the Cannoli Siciliani. I'm closing down now for someone to come up with the name of this building. Doesn't appear that anyone is following this thread right now. Where are the two Michaels? Musotographer Posted October 11, 2015 Share #851 Posted October 11, 2015 Come on someone, you've been given it on plate - with added cannoli.
Michael Hiles Posted October 11, 2015 Share #852 Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) A guided guess... Syracuse. Santa Lucia alla Badia. Edited October 11, 2015 by Michael Hiles
Musotographer Posted October 11, 2015 Share #853 Posted October 11, 2015 Well done sir - and as war wrote, Caravaggio's extraordinary picture of poor St Lucy's burial is the altarpiece. The church closes off the southern end of Syracuse/Ortigia's Piazza del Duomo, a stunning public space even by Italian standards. Your turn...... Welcome, dear visitor! Michael Hiles Posted October 11, 2015 Share #855 Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) OK - not many clues in the picture, but this is definitely not obscure. Welcome, dear visitor!
