Michael Geschlecht Posted April 16, 2015 Share #662 Posted April 16, 2015 (edited) Hello Michael, I think that things might have slowed down a little. I'm glad you were able to figure out the location of the last photo. Could our Mediterranean Country not on the water be San Marino? Most of the other Mediterranean Countries I can think of have at least part of their borders at the water's edge. Michael Hiles Posted April 17, 2015 Share #663 Posted April 17, 2015 Hi Michael, Thanks for taking this up again. Not San Marino - but a good idea along the right lines. And something of an almost unique case, and not so very far from San Marino.
Michael Geschlecht Posted April 17, 2015 Share #664 Posted April 17, 2015 Hello Michael, Sorry for my absence. Computer problems. The palm tree looks like its in a reasonably warm place & the dome looks Italian. Perhaps the South of Italy? Best Regards, Michael
stuny Posted April 18, 2015 Share #665 Posted April 18, 2015 Perhaps Monaco, inland a bit?
Michael Hiles Posted April 24, 2015 Share #666 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) Both good guesses - but not quite. Think middle of Italy - a famous place, but this picture is a rare-ish view. This garden is only open to the public by appointment and with a guide - for security reasons. And there is a quite small chance of bumping into someone well known. otto.f Posted April 25, 2015 Share #667 Posted April 25, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) So it's not some famous villa on the Amalfi coast?
pop Posted April 25, 2015 Share #668 Posted April 25, 2015 I think it's the garden of the Great Chief of an organization which is overly fond of renaissance uniforms, particularly for their police force.
Michael Hiles Posted April 25, 2015 Share #669 Posted April 25, 2015 (edited) Philipp has got it. We are in the Vatican gardens. You can book a tour, but you cannot just wander in. They are subtly careful about security, for obvious reasons. Each group has about 15-20 people, you have to stay with your group, and they count/make sure that the same number of people entering also exit. Booking a tour has the added advantage that the ticket gets you into the Vatican Museums - with an amazing collection that includes the Sistine Chapel, and the apartments with the Raphael frescoes (including the School of Atehns). The famous person you might bump into is the retired Benedict XVI – he lives in a modest apartment-like building in the garden grounds. Apparently he is sometimes seen (but not by me) doing his rosary on the roof of his apartment. For what it is worth, the architectural photography possibilities are terrific. I will post 1-2 shots of St Peter's from a unusual perspective. Edited April 25, 2015 by Michael Hiles
pop Posted April 26, 2015 Share #670 Posted April 26, 2015 Thak you, Michael. Here's the next mystery building, and this time it has no religious significance whatsoever. Hopefully, it's a bit easier than the last one, too, who knows. Welcome, dear visitor! pop Posted April 26, 2015 Share #672 Posted April 26, 2015 Not far from Germany, but not in Germany. Knowing the architect would be a dead giveaway.

pop Posted April 27, 2015 Share #676 Posted April 27, 2015 Thank you, Michael. As a matter of fact, Denmark lies in the wrong direction from Germany, I'm afraid.
Michael Geschlecht Posted April 27, 2015 Share #677 Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) Hello Philipp, If Denmark is the wrong direction from Germany: The direction opposite could be toward your home. Is this a photo of your home? Best Regards, Michael Edited April 27, 2015 by Michael Geschlecht
pop Posted April 27, 2015 Share #678 Posted April 27, 2015 Haha, how close you are! I was sorely tempted to do exactly what you suggest, namely to put my home here as the mystery building. As I live in a building whose cultural significance is officially acknowledged by my country, this would even have made sense. However, the building I chose instead is a short distance away from my home, but quite convently within walking distance. Also, I don't think anyone lives there, but I may be mistaken. pop Posted April 27, 2015 Share #680 Posted April 27, 2015 The Vitra Headquarters of Frank Gehry. Sometimes education pays off. Yes, quite. Well done, it's your turn.
