andybarton Posted October 22, 2011 Share #181 Posted October 22, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Theres a difference between shots of attendees and shots taken around the rendezvous, I'd say. I would seriously doubt whether anyone would offer a shot of a chum as a Challenge entry.

earleygallery Posted October 22, 2011 Share #184 Posted October 22, 2011 I'm not talking about the shots of the meeting/bars/dinner but rather the general images that people post. I just feel it would be better to refrain until the Challenge shots are at least up first. If I'm on my own here then that's fine, but I thought it worth mentioning. robert_parker Posted October 22, 2011 Share #185 Posted October 22, 2011 I'm not talking about the shots of the meeting/bars/dinner but rather the general images that people post. I just feel it would be better to refrain until the Challenge shots are at least up first. If I'm on my own here then that's fine, but I thought it worth mentioning. I think doing something like posting comments in the same thread as the Challenge pictures or doing the same in the voting thread might be prejudicial to, or influence, voting but posting photos of the event before (or even during) voting can only build up the anticipation and interest. Ps. I'll just add that Ferdl Huber's image of Erl showing his photo to the young couple is for me almost a definitive image of what a particular aspect of strret photography is all about. It would make a nice cover shot for LFI.

octo Posted October 23, 2011 Share #187 Posted October 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Robert, I concur. It might nudge some Forum members to join in now they can see the friendly and relaxed atmosphere around some very nice pieces of equipment, good food, congenial guests and interesting conversations, not exclusively around Leica. Thanks to those who brought those fancy new cameras, I mean digital or something like that, and posted the background set, as it were, for absent friends and future ones. spylaw4 Posted October 23, 2011 Share #188 Posted October 23, 2011 It is also my view that posting photos of partcipants before and after the event, together with those taken at the event functions does no harm at all and as Robert says might encourage participation by new faces. This next might be preaching to the converted in this thread but.... Come along you folks it's a great social weekend as well as bit of seriously challenging photography! You don't need an M9 or MP - even a C-Lux 2 can get votes (see Malta). And don't be worried about how well you do in the voting - I got zero votes the first time I entered. It only inspired me to do better next time.
earleygallery Posted October 23, 2011 Share #189 Posted October 23, 2011 Please guys, as I've pointed out twice now, I'm not referring to the 'get together' photos, rather the 'off challenge' shots that people tend to start posting. I know we've always agreed that shots taken during the challenge time will be held back for the 'ones that got away thread' but posting other similar photos from over the weekend can lessen the impact of the actual challenge entries by the time they are posted up. Just to be clear, I have no issue with posting feedback, photos from the lunch and dinner meetings and other photos from areas outside of the challenge venue, and I agree they may help encourage others to join in in future! erl Posted October 24, 2011 Share #191 Posted October 24, 2011 Life is getting interesting!! I just got robbed in Naples. Lost all cash and credit cards. I now have to find way to pay my hotel bill and pay for food for two more days before I fly home. Also,I have to survive a one day stop over in Singapore. Basic survival skills needed somehow. Camera gear is safe and so am I. Just bit hungry at present but there are people on the street worse off than me. Maybe should offer tourists to take their pics for a few euros! stunsworth Posted October 24, 2011 Share #192 Posted October 24, 2011 Erl, what can I say. How did it happen? The most important thing is that you are ok. Do you have anyway of contacting your bank and/or credit card company? They may be able to sort out some cash for you.
azzo Posted October 24, 2011 Share #193 Posted October 24, 2011 That's bad news Erl but glad your equipment is ok and more important, you are too.
spylaw4 Posted October 24, 2011 Share #194 Posted October 24, 2011 Oh no! How dreadful, my sympathies. But at least your camera gear is safe and much more importantly you as well. Quick phone call to the Australian Consulate in ?? Naples, Rome? If you have an AmexCard they can usually get a replacement to you in 24 hours. erl Posted October 24, 2011 Share #198 Posted October 24, 2011 Briefly, thanks all for the offers of assistance. I have, via the magic of iPhone, extracted my wife's credit crd numbers from her and paid my bills. The event happened on a notorious bus when I was very fatigued from a foot injury (don't ask!). Iwas pick pocketed by two men next me. Such is life in Napoli. I was warned but dropped my guard. Again thanks for the concern and offers help.tomorrow the real agony starts with 50+ hours travel home.
robert_parker Posted October 24, 2011 Share #199 Posted October 24, 2011 I had to stop a pickpocket only recently, on the London Tube. It shows you can never be too careful, wherever you are. Glad you got sorted and hope the journey back goes smoothly
farnz Posted October 24, 2011 Author Share #200 Posted October 24, 2011 Erl, I'm very sad to hear that you were robbed but very happy to hear that you are okay and you have funds sorted out. If I can be of any assistance at all please drop me a PM. Pete.
