John I believe that those who are nearby, or go by the name of Noah, are meeting at the place where we are meeting tomorrow. We will stay local, as the weather really is against us tonight. Advertisement Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Palermo One Challenge: the arrangements and the rules. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted October 14, 2011 Share #102 Posted October 14, 2011 So funny, my new MD was in the office today with his wife, they are flying out to Palermo tomorrow! I told them to look out for you all. Be weird if they appear in your photos!
andybarton Posted October 15, 2011 Share #103 Posted October 15, 2011 This Farnz guy sure is strict... "You cannot leave the cafe until 2pm. The Challenge doesn't start until 2" Crikey. Never been this serious before.
timd. Posted October 15, 2011 Share #104 Posted October 15, 2011 good luck to all of you! but, more important: have fun!!!
farnz Posted October 15, 2011 Author Share #105 Posted October 15, 2011 This Farnz guy sure is strict... "You cannot leave the cafe until 2pm. The Challenge doesn't start until 2" Crikey. Never been this serious before. Oi! How dare you? I resemble that remark! I felt it would be interesting to have a 'scramble' start to equalise things by everyone starting from the same point at the same time. If it wasn't popular we can review it. This anything-but-strict Fanz guy.
robert_parker Posted October 15, 2011 Share #106 Posted October 15, 2011 Should have gone for a 'Le Mans' start....put all the cameras in a row outside the cafe and everyone has to run up and grab thier own camera - of course some cameras will fail to start, some owners will need to be pushed to get them moving and there is a much greater liklihood of collision but it could be fun.... StS Posted October 16, 2011 Share #110 Posted October 16, 2011 Well, I'm already back home after maximizing the plane change to flight time ratio... Very special thanks to Pete for the organization and choice of locations and to everyone for participating and making the Challenge happen again. The time was too short, I couldn't have a chat with everyone but will catch up next year. Wishing everyone still travelling the best experiences and a safe trip home and hoping everyone enjoyed the challenge as I did. Cheers Stefan
andybarton Posted October 16, 2011 Share #111 Posted October 16, 2011 +1 on that It took us 11 hours to get home, door to door. Thank goodness there were no delays in the air, or on the road!
bill Posted October 17, 2011 Share #112 Posted October 17, 2011 Well, it was great to see everyone, not just the familiar faces but the first-timers too. The high point for me was the dinner - so good to catch up. I do find it amusing the cavalier way that thousands of pounds worth of kit is strewn around a busy dining table, among the wine glasses and flying plates of pasta Palermo didn't float my boat, I'm afraid, in a number of ways. I'll be fascinated to see the results from everybody, and look forward to next year Regards, Bill
andybarton Posted October 17, 2011 Share #113 Posted October 17, 2011 Palermo didn't float my boat, I'm afraid, in a number of ways. Me neither. I found it a pretty charmless and unfriendly place. So completely different from Northern Italian cities. I felt uncomfortable and vaguely threatened most of the time, an experience that I will not be wishing to repeat in a hurry. It was good to see everyone again though, and meet more new people. Let's hope we can get some of the absent friends with us next year, to add to the new ones made this. Now, having been on a plane twice in four days, I am on the LemSip Max Strengths for the rest of the week. I am going to have to stop flying all together after next Spring is out of the way
azzo Posted October 17, 2011 Share #114 Posted October 17, 2011 Ah! .. Others wish to have made it there, no matter what. ... Consider it a break, away from the usual routine guys. ........... ps If there's a possibility that it might be Istanbul next year, then I'm booking a place from now. ........ richam Posted October 17, 2011 Share #115 Posted October 17, 2011 enjoy the challenge, ant the meetings, too. suggestion for next year: istanbul Istanbul has some advantages. There's at least one member, Richard (semirch), who lives in the area. He was with us in Malta. Myself, I lived 15 years in Turkey, including 2 years in Istanbul, and would be glad to volunteer whatever organizing help I could provide. Can't speak for Richard, but I'll bet he would also be happy to pitch in. Besides the over-photographed tourist sites, there are many off-the-beaten-path locations that present good photo opportunities.

Perhaps we could set up a photo competition for the maximum value of equipment strewn around on tables. Welcome, dear visitor! lanetomlane Posted October 17, 2011 Share #120 Posted October 17, 2011 Eileen and I would just like to say a big Thank You to Pete for the superb organisation and to everyone else who made us both feel so very welcome. It was great meeting friends, both old and new and we look forward to the next chance we have to get together. PS: For anyone from UK who is still out there, I'd stay; the weather must be better than here. ______________________ Cheers, Tom & Eileen
