So just for funsies and grinsies I compared my M8.2 output to my old M9-P and the M240 I rented for a week. There is no difference in quality from the M8.2 and M9-P. Same pixel pitch - same resolution (actually the M8.2 color and bw conversions are better, imo). When comparing files from the M240 - you have to look hard (on my poor 1080 monitor) but the M240 just edges the M8.2. Maybe the need to crop would warrant the M240. And yes, I'd buy one once the prices return from la-la land. I think to see a significant difference in a print over 24" we really need 36 (or more) mp. But I would still take the RENDITION of the M8.2 over all the others.

Someone mentioned how different the D800 is from a Leica. I agree whole-heartedly. But I use my D800/Zeiss combo for mostly large print landscapes on a tripod. I suppose to see the difference between the 50 Lux ASPH bokeh and that of the Zeiss 55 1.4 we would need a 36 mp Leica sensor. But, for me, right now, the Zeiss 55 1.4 blows everything else out of the water.

Thanks Jip for getting me here!:)

I thought it was all too easy. Just take my R lenses and buy myself one of those Sony A7 FF cameras and forget about my love for M. It's just something I cannot afford...

But when I look at these images they are just as gorgeous! 8 years old camera? Maybe, but they just show! Makes my choise a whole lot more difficult since I now seriously think about M8.2...

The M8 still and will always be a great camera, having the ability to buy a 36MP camera doesn't make the 10mp camera's any less good... especially not if you look at the quality of the sensors separate from their resolution. The nicest colour rendition I ever got out of a camera is the also 10mp 1.37crop DM-R sensor.

The M8/M8.2 are great camera's and will remain great :)

the d800 is a perfect picture machine, the resolution is terrific, but for my private use and my free b+w works i love the m8 style

I use my MM for large prints and also the Fuji GW 690 (+ Portra 160) witch provides me with amazing 10K pictures (when scanned on Imacon X5) :)

yep,the mm is great,no doubt!

but for my special "dark/dirty and grainy " black and white look, the m8 works so fine.i have some prints in a size about 1 meter, they look great imo ;)

if i need a digital sharp and clear look, i have some other options ;)

I have printed M8 b&w in 60x80, works fine for me.

6x9 Portra works also great when passed in b&w, on par with my MM results...

Well, after yesterday there is a new converted M8 owner.

I gave my girlfriend a beautiful M8 as a spontaneous gift so she would have something to shoot at her sister's wedding and last night she said she loves the camera.

She seems to have caught on to focusing the camera pretty quick and looks forward to experimenting with its capabilities.

Finally, after numerous attempts to find a camera she likes, it looks as if she may have found it.

The other option is the Sony A7s, which performs much better with M lenses than the A7 or A7r.

However, it is not a rangefinder and if that is the experience you want, the M8 does an excellent job at image quality, but the ISO range is limited compared to other cameras.

Have you tried the A7s already?

best

No A7 for me... I tried it but it is slowish, the viewer has this nasty disconnected feel to it... Maybe the photo's will be sublime, it is just not fun working with it...

I tried a Df by Nikon too. Mounted my Summicron-R 35mm and was actually blown away. No RF experience but as close to my R-E as I have been. No need to change glass too but still no Aperture Coupling...

Starting a love affair with M8!

No A7, nor the mighty Df could persuade me the way this 8 years old little gem did. Now I can call her mine :)
