Life can be complicated the Leica M8 is simple. An iconic iteration of a classic piece of mid century design.

It is beautifully made, really solid yet precise and elegant at the same time. Rangefinders aren't for everyone but to me there is great calm and simplicity in the mechanical link between the focus mechanism and the lens. I like to make the comparison with high end hifi where there is often only an on off switch and a volume control. The focus is on the clearest path between the recording and the listener.

It may be a 10 year old camera but mine works well and the raw DNG files are great to work with.

You've summed it up well Northgate. And welcome to the Forum...we'd like to see more of you with that sort of attitude... :)

Old and still reliable, with great picture quality, counts a lot for me too.

all the best...

Here is a JPEG from the DNG file. No processing whatsoever. You will be able to see the reason for the prevalence of mid tones. One of the reasons I posted this shot is that I have noted there are very few photos from the 28mm 6.3 Hektor posted. Thought some might be interested in  what is rendered by the lens.

Here is another from  the same lens and walk this morning. No hood; the lens does not even allow thinking about facing the sun.

@Jmanivelle

The street scene is a very entertaining photograph. I love the family photo session in the background. I mean, dog, baby, relaxing in the shade, and a day in the sun.....it has everything.

I know, I've probably submitted to many of this bird feeder but, recently, I've suspected a raider; as the thing was being emptied at a surprising rate. This time I used my 73mm 1.9 Hektor. The lens is wide open. I think I got pretty lucky in getting focus on his eye. He/she is a crafty and cautious little thing. I had to shoot through the shrubs.

The loe contrast is typical of what you get from a non coated lens.
