Here's a B&W and colour version of the same image.

This is what the M8 can do:

I sincerely hope Leica will ignore this letter (and similar requests) and continue to develop digital cameras, including (but not limited to) Leica M series cameras, with modern CMOS sensors. CMOS has better dynamic range and better high-ISO performance, without sacrificing low-ISO performance.

By trusting my eyes, I've come to the conclusion that the alleged superiority of CCD sensors at low ISO is just a myth.

Though I do believe that the CCD sensor still would have potential, all development has gone into CMOS sensors, giving them a clear and nearly irrecoverable advantage. A bit like the steam-engine vs the internal combustion engine.

I made many posts over the years praising the b/w results from the M8.2. And, trusting my eyes…and prints, that camera now serves only as back-up to my M, which offers equal or better results for me, along with various other advantages as a traditional RF camera, without regard to LV or video.

I don't fault others for wanting choices, or writing letters, but I'd be careful about generalizations regarding perceived image quality. Different strokes…
