MarkP Posted July 1, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) According to the Australian Leica representative Leica black dot stickers are no longer available! I'm after one for my M9 so I can take better B&W photographs. Any advice on where I can locate them?

k_g_wolf ✝ Posted July 1, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 1, 2011 D. GOLDBERG applied them some time (perhaps too long) ago. Don´t know if he still does. LEICA refuses to do so, their answer is the "P" ... Best GEORG
roydonian Posted July 1, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2011 I can't see why dealers are not given a stock of red dots and black dots (and even blank dots coloured to match the current black and grey paint schemes), plus a simple plastic tool for prising off the existing dot. The changeover would take all of 30 seconds to apply and would leave the customer with whatever type of dot he or she preferred. jaapv Posted July 1, 2011 Share #5 Posted July 1, 2011 The reason, Doug, is that Leica does not own the trademark, Leica Microsystems does iirc and Leica Camera leases the right to use it - and the lease contract stipulates that the background be red. Leica Camera doesn't mind, they used a black dot for the M8.2 - and got a legal drubbing...
MarkP Posted July 1, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted July 1, 2011 Thanks all. Thanks Georg, I've just emailed DAG. If they're no-go does anyone know anywhere else I could try? Also, how are the dots changed over if I can get one? As I'm not fussed about top plate Leica script, having a black dot, perhaps removing M9 white paint on front plate, and my Giotto's screen protector I've got my poor man's M9-P:cool:as per thisvery superior-looking M9 which will no doubt take very superior-looking photos. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/188589-bought-m9.html Mark
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted July 1, 2011 Share #7 Posted July 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) >> Mark In case it fails, try to have fun with your LEICA just as it is. Thousands of L-aficionadios take excellent photos with the help of their red dots. Just be brave and give it a start ... best wishes GEORG
MarkP Posted July 1, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted July 1, 2011 I CAN NOT POSSIBLY HAVE FUN WITH MY LEICA WITHOUT MY BLACK DOT! I CAN NOT POSSIBLY TAKE GOOD PHOTOS WITHOUT MY BLACK DOT! THE PHOTOGRAPHY OF THOSE THOUSANDS OF POOR L-AFFICIONADOS IS COMPROMISED BY THAT RED DOT, THEY JUST DON"T KNOW IT. IT IS THE GREAT LEICA CONSPIRACY! No I'm not shouting, just having a tantrum Seriously though Georg , I'm not after it for 'stealth-mode', I'm not losing sleep or depressed over it, I won't even try too track down a black dot beyond advice in this thread. I just quite like the look. Mark
tdtaylor Posted July 1, 2011 Share #9 Posted July 1, 2011 I had an extra dot and went the DIY route. Did have a black dot from DAG- sent the camera in for servicing and Leica NJ replaced it with a red dot! Couldn't tell the difference between the two. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/181404-m9-diy-black-dot-i-had.html By the way, I would remove the dot first before painting. Warm it with your finger tip for ten minutes, then slowly twist it off. Basically held with a small piece of double-stick masking tape.

spylaw4 Posted July 1, 2011 Share #12 Posted July 1, 2011 sent the camera in for servicing and Leica NJ replaced it with a red dot! The bastards:mad: +1 I think I"ll take mine off before sending it!
Jeff S Posted July 1, 2011 Share #13 Posted July 1, 2011 The bastards:mad: They will keep it on if you ask nicely in advance. Another good reason to establish a contact point before sending a camera in for any service. DAG still supplies black dots AFAIK. Put one on my chrome M8.2 to match my black one. I just like the look...no other reason...and no other changes or accessories to my stock cameras. Jeff
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted July 1, 2011 Share #14 Posted July 1, 2011 I had an extra dot ... sent the camera in for servicing and Leica NJ replaced it with a red dot! That´s weird. You should have taken them to court. Even DSK went that route, in a different matter though, but in the end, he seems to be successful. >> Mark Why not simply blackmailing them: tell them, you would only send your camera in, when they return it with a black dot, otherwise you would go to a different shop. ianman Posted July 1, 2011 Share #15 Posted July 1, 2011 When my M9 had it's sensor changed (due to hot pixel), Leica suggested the change from red to black dot in the official document. Strange !
lct Posted July 1, 2011 Share #16 Posted July 1, 2011 Black dots can be found out here. Don't hesitate too long as they are often out of stock. I'd much prefer no dot at all but there is a hole behind it. Welcome, dear visitor! pgk Posted July 1, 2011 Share #17 Posted July 1, 2011 After I advertised two (and sold them for what they cost me from DAG although one had been applied) I was told that Leitax had some available so you could try them Leica & Pentax & Nikon | Leitax. mr_big Posted July 1, 2011 Share #18 Posted July 1, 2011 I'm after one for my M9 so I can take better B&W photographs. You're going at it the wrong way -- you'll need to buy a B&W SD card to shoot B&W photos.
thighslapper Posted July 1, 2011 Share #19 Posted July 1, 2011 DAG had some last week. 2 are on the way as I write....... I've painted the M9 logo a dull metallic grey to match the script on the dot logo...... doesn't make the camera completely anonymous but it won't shout LEICA ! as it did before. I'd much prefer no dot at all but there is a hole behind it. Like the black look, simply because I like it. I could maybe see $10 US, but $16 to ship! I'll stick with my Home Depot spray paint- don't care about it that much. And I haven't been able to tell the difference between mine and the original- and I have a bunch of red ones collected over the years. If I could only find silver spray paint to match the silver paint........
