elansprint72 Posted February 6, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I believe that these were the first fire-proof dock buildings in the world. The dock itself only had a front-line use of around 20 years, because ships got wider and would not fit through the gate. Thanks for looking, Pete. Advertisement Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Hi elansprint72, Take a look here Albert Dock. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted February 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 6, 2007 Hi Pete, you've done better than I've ever done and produced an interesting shot in Albert Dock. I've always struggled, I find it a soulless sort of place - too much 'heritage' and not enough atmosphere. A bit bleak IMHO. thanks for sharing. andybarton Posted February 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 6, 2007 Pete This is by far the best of your series from here. You know that this is a "World Heritage Site" and the largest collection of Grade 1 listed buildings in Britain, don't you?
stuny Posted February 7, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 7, 2007 Pete - The bright triangle of the ship's prow against the relatively dull, subtle colors of everthing else is superb.
robert_parker Posted February 7, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 7, 2007 Pete This really works - the play of colour and geometry is great
ECliffordSmith Posted February 7, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 7, 2007 Pete, Very nice colour and composition. The relections in th calm dock are very nice too. Andy, Thanks for the information regarding the grade 1 listed buildings. I would not have guessed that. Having said that there are not any other examples of such builidings I can think of. elansprint72 Posted February 7, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted February 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks guys; I didn't know about the heritage thing. After lots of shots here I think that concentrating on small bits is probably the answer, things like the chain fences and cranes. Here is some info on the dock history and also check out the home page by clicking at the top of this link; fabulous phtography awaits (not mine!). Port Cities: - Albert Dock Thanks Pete. Artichoke Posted February 7, 2007 Share #8 Posted February 7, 2007 you have a fine eye demonstrated with this exquisite composition I find it fascinating how technical innovation gets trumped so easily by technical progress as your history of the Albert Docks demonstrate grand photography
