Eoin Posted February 6, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Perhaps the Leica UV/IR filters are almost ready to ship, I just received an email saying they were processing my order and were requesting clarification of my address. My order was submitted on early December and apart from the initial confirmation I've heard nothing else. Then again it could be nothing. But they are due about now. Advertisement Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Hi Eoin, Take a look here Perhaps UV/IR Cut filters are about to ship. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dhoelscher Posted February 6, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 6, 2007 Interesting ... I would have thought that they would have released firmware 1.10 prior to shipping the filters - so that when the filters were in users' hands (the official Leica versions) the cyan vignetting would be corrected for coded Leica lenses ... who knows ... grober Posted February 6, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 6, 2007 A conversation with Leica USA personnel this week revealed the following information: IR-cut filters for registered M8 owners in the USA who have also informed Leica which two filters they wish will be shipped directly from Germany to the individual. Leica will absorb the applicable duties and shipping charges at the time of shipment. (I guess the same applies for registered Canadian owners too.) Â Target to start shipping the two filters is sill this month. As yet, I have not received any e-mail. Â -g
Eoin Posted February 6, 2007 Author Share #4 Â Posted February 6, 2007 I would not expect you to receive an email, the email to me was to ask for my postal code which didn't appear on my order, we don't use postal codes here (Ireland) so that's the reason I guess. But the email said they were processing my order.
cbretteville Posted February 6, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 6, 2007 Leica's UV/IR filters are listed with Leica product codes in the January ed. of the Norwegian Leica distributor's price list. That should indicate something is about to happen.

chris_tribble Posted February 6, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My B+W filters that we back ordered at FotoHuppert are now being delivered (SUCH nice people to deal with). This could mean that the manufacturers are also getting shipments to Leica.
wlaidlaw Posted March 8, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted March 8, 2007 I just requested the Filters Team, that if my filters were not to going to be delivered by the 26th of March, to send them to my French house instead. They immediately came back to me to say the deilvery address had been changed to France - indicative of delivery dates? Still I have one B+W to be going on with. That should indicate something is about to happen. Â That was Feb 8, so they may indeed still synchronize with the 1.10 firmware release next month. Carl, what prices were listed along with the product codes in the Norwegian price list? (I assume that we take 25% away as the result of the local VAT markup.) Say for 39mm, 52 mm, and 62 mm to set the range. Â scott
Shootist Posted March 8, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted March 8, 2007 This is becoming a bit ridiculous. I have had my M8 for 1.5 months and NEED the free filters I was promised. I could care less when firmware 1.10 comes out, I want the filters NOW. Just think of those that bought in the beginning. They have been waiting for the needed IR filter for almost 6 months. Leica get on the stick and SHIP the filters NOW.

Shootist Posted March 8, 2007 Share #12  Posted March 8, 2007 Ed, You're sounding as desperate as I was about the availablility of spare batteries. (I want my filters, too.) :-)  Larry Well the first email I got after registering for the filters said they would start to ship on February 7. It is now March 8 and still NO ONE has gotten any of the promised IR cut filters, other then one or two people on the IN crowd.

canlogic Posted March 8, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted March 8, 2007 I ordered mine Dec 4th. Yesterday I sent them an email asking when they would ship as I have a wedding in a few weeks. Answer I got was that they have none in stock and they are being shipped out as they get them. No time frame given.

Of course the filters are late under either interpretation.
wlaidlaw Posted March 8, 2007 Share #16 Â Posted March 8, 2007 I hope the Leica are learning a serious business lesson - underpromise but overdeliver. Lens coding, firmware and now filters. Saying something just to get customers off your back or to look good is very "short-termist". Â If they had said to us in the beginning: Â 1) Coding - we are innundated with lenses and can't promise turn around times, as they have to be done individually and properly. We only have a limited number of technicians capable of doing this procedure. 2) Firmware - this is a very complicated issue and we would rather get it right than quick, so regret no due date. We will get it to you as soon as we can and we really are working hard on it. If we can issue you with an interim version, we will. 3) Filters - these have to be made to our very high standards and pass our quality control. This means that it is not a quick process to gear up production for the large number of filters needed - please bear with us and we are sure you will not be disappointed in the long run. Â The majority of us, being Leica aficionados, might have grumbled a bit but would have said "yes that is the right approach". Â Wilson
Artichoke Posted March 8, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted March 8, 2007 I suspect BW is busy making the filters for Leica, but remarkably very few are available to be bought I have on order two from Leica, but want a 55 slim for my 21 Elmarit it is also remarkable that the viewfinder magnifier is on backorder almost everywhere I think this speaks for a greater than anticipated interest in the M8 and I suspect Leica & its suppliers will get up to speed soon
Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 8, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted March 8, 2007 The delivery of the first UV/IR filters to the customers has also commenced.
