colorflow Posted June 20, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Could someone tell me if the hood for the Lux 35 ASPH 1 (the one with the locking ring and the little red arrows) would fit on the Aspherical version (the one with 2 aspherical surfaces) ? The Aspherical hood is larger and appears to be the same one used for the Summicron 28. I like the ASPH 1hood better. It is smaller and has a nice sturdy cap. Thanks,

It is actually a bit smaller than the version 1 hood. And definitely smaller the the Summicron 28 hood

I am interested in fitting the version 1 hood on the original Aspherical lens. The one before the ASPH version 1.

horosu Posted June 20, 2011 Share #5 Posted June 20, 2011 The Aspherical is much more resistant to flare and shouldn't need one, in my experience. Regards, Horea
lct Posted June 20, 2011 Share #6 Posted June 20, 2011 Could someone tell me if the hood for the Lux 35 ASPH 1 (the one with the locking ring and the little red arrows) would fit on the Aspherical version (the one with 2 aspherical surfaces) ?... I have no experience with the 35/1.4 "aspherical" sorry but both lenses are E46 so the 12589 hood you refer to should fit the same way as the original 12587. The latter has no red arrow contrary to the 12589 and the 12451 for Summicron 28/2. Not sure if the 12589 can be blocked on the 35/1.4 "aspherical" though. colorflow Posted June 20, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted June 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks lct. I can never get these catalog numbers straight. The 12589 must be the one I am thinking about. However, some of its pictures on the web shows a flimsy hood cap, whereas the one I had with the ASPH 1 had a hood cap that goes over the top of the hood. That's good to know. Is it much better than the ASPH 1? I thought the two were basically the same as far as image quality is concerned except for focus shift. I have one coming. Traded my ASPH 1 +$ for the Aspherical. Really looking forward to it.

Ivar B Posted June 21, 2011 Share #10 Posted June 21, 2011 As far as I recall, the 1.4/35 ASPHERICAL (not ASPH) was delivered with 2 different hoods over the course of its short lifetime. I have owned two of these lenses, and the last one I had was equipped with the same hood as the 2.0/28mm. The one I have now is unused in box (bought for collection purposes from Meister Camera in Hamburg) and it came with a much smaller hood I have not seen anywhere else - cannot recall what the code id for that one. heninden Posted June 21, 2011 Share #11 Posted June 21, 2011 Alan, Unfortunately no, the hood for the 35 Summilux ASPH I (12589) will not fit the Aspherical version. I, like you, like the 12589 and tried fitting it on the Aspherical. But it just will not fit. It is ironic because 12589 does fit the 28 Summicron nicely and the standard issue hood for the Summicron (12451) is virtually the same hood as that standard issue for the 35 Aspherical (12587). horosu Posted June 21, 2011 Share #12 Posted June 21, 2011 I have used the Aspherical without hood from day one and never (and I mean never) have I encountered flare. I'm not saying that it cannot flare, just that it works most of the time perfectly well without hood.

colorflow Posted June 21, 2011 Author Share #15 Posted June 21, 2011 Thanks Ivar & Luigi. Then 12588 is what I need. I bet that's rarer than a hen's tooth. Henry, I am really disappointed to hear that 12589 won't fit since I just bought one based on Leica NJ's reply to my email that it does Menos, unfortunately I doubt if the Aspherical would make me a better photographer. I was perfectly happy with my ASPH, no issue with focusing. Beginning to have some "trader's remorse". We'll see
lct Posted June 21, 2011 Share #16 Posted June 21, 2011 No red arrow on the 12588 though. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.de/index.php/Gegenlichtblenden#12588_.26_12589

I was perfectly happy with my ASPH, no issue with focusing. Beginning to have some "trader's remorse". We'll see You should not ;-) Regarding the hood … I once went into a Leica shop in Shanghai, to find a 35 Lux ASPH hood, to buy for my then new 28 Cron ASPH. To the shock and horror of the white glove equipped shop personnel, I used their few seconds of shock freeze, to fit the hood to my 28 Cron ASPH, to find, that it won't fit I had a second try in just buying the same 35 Lux ASPH hood for a great price in another shop and just fitted it with a bit more substantial force, making sure of it's perfect alignment first. It fitted perfectly although a bit tight in the beginning. You might just find, that it works. I later added two of the newly introduced 12466 petal shaped metal hoods - one for the Cron, one for the Lux (nice fit, nicer finder view). Since I sold the Cron a few weeks ago, I find myself now having two 35 Lux and two metal special lens hoods - I am going to collect hoods, it's a nice hobby Damn, why is it, that 1:00 o'clock in the morning, there are so little good coffee shops open, to pick up a nice nightly coffee …
horosu Posted June 21, 2011 Share #18 Posted June 21, 2011 I would be very interested to see if the new 12466 would fit the Aspherical. It looks like a nice hood
menos I M6 Posted June 21, 2011 Share #19 Posted June 21, 2011 I would be very interested to see if the new 12466 would fit the Aspherical. It looks like a nice hood If the standard lens hood of the 28 Cron ASPH fits a lens, it is to assume, that the new 12466 fits as well. It uses the same dimension pickups and positions. It indeed is a very nice hood.
