The old 1.162 firmware (changed title)

No Jaap, it's also a perfectly reasonable question for a community interested in all things Leica.

As I understand, the previous standard M9 firmware was 1.138, correct me if wrong.

Then there were a series of betas, 1.158, 1.160, 1.160 before 1.162.

I'm sure the 80 or so beta testers could shed light on this unless they are silenced by NDA's which would seem silly given the testing period is over. Or is it not?

So where does that leave the M9 Ti firmware, 1.150.

The only difference I can see with the camera is the built-in soft release but I understand the 'soft' option is also available with the standard M9.

There may also be something related to varying the brightness of the framelines illuminator.

Hayden, if you do get an answer from Leica be sure to post.

Regards,

Mark

Mark I received a new email today from software support. They said the update will work on the M9 Ti as well. But you can't update the regular m9 then simply re-insert the "used" SD card on the Titan. You have to reformat it again, transfer the .upd file to the card, then insert the same card into the Titan.

Will try that later and see if it works.

...so, I was right...

In reading this and similar threads, I find slightly astonishing (or maybe not) how many people do not understand even basic computer operation.

How many digital camera users are computer illiterate?

Point made, rude and unnecessary, but made none the less.

How do you people survive when you do not know basic concepts such as:

1) Dragging and dropping.

2) Examining file extensions.

3) Finding files on your computer.

4) Zipping and unzipping,

5) Clicking and double clicking.

6) Simple directory structures, such as folders and root directories.

That's saying the same thing again. Still rude, still unnecessary, and even more of a waste of our time.

Many seem to be befuddled by downloaded files, moving files when they are downloaded, locating files on your hard drives, etc etc.

Just in case we didn't get it the first two times you mention it? Getting ruder every time but also proving a shocking inability to grasp the English language in as concise a manner as possible. Needless repetition doesn't give one's point more weight, it makes one look stupid.

I think many learn to use computers by laboriously memorizing a set of procedures without any comprehension of what they are doing or why.

And somehow we should give a flying rats arse what you think?

When something is required that is not pre-memorized, they have absolutely no concept about basic computer functions.

Somewhat unsettling.

Maybe, just maybe they spent more of their time growing up and becoming a polite, gentile member of society who doesn't need to be a "forum king", who doesn't get a personal feeling of self worth by belittling people on a tiny, insignificant Leica forum? Maybe they were learning grammatical structure to prevent them having to write a series of single sentences separated by spaces? Maybe they discovered paragraphs?

Horror of horrors, maybe they are attracted more to the act of taking photographs and producing compelling images, and less so to the tedious, trivial detail of how to update the firmware in their cameras?

Or simply engage the little LOCK switch on the SD card—then the camera won't automatically delete the .upd file after the update and so you can update as many M9 cameras with one SD card as you wish ...

It's not "...tedious, trivial detail...". It's a basic skill to master, like formatting an SD card or transferring files to your computer, or white balance, or focus, or...

I agree, there is no need to belittle those who are struggling with it for the first time, but if you want to use a digital camera you must, surely, master these "life skills". http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/barnacks-bar/186971-my-heartfelt-thanks-leica.html#post1738378

Relative to people's desire to create compelling images, which is the context in which I presented it, I believe it is.

Update went well but now the options for setting "Sharpening". "Colour Saturation" and "Contrast" are greyed out and I can't change them.

Been playing a lot with an X1 and my M7 so maybe I'm forgetting something here, or have other members experienced this?

Thanks,

Pete.

You're in DNG-only. Set it to DNG+JPG or JPG only and you'll have that options again.

Doh! Didn't have jpeg selected in addition to DNG.

Sorry.

But I still can't receive BBC World Service when in my house :)

I'm sure a pigeon could make a more ponted comment.

But still when some one in the street asks me to reload a film in their camera, I just reload it...

Help please. I am running XP pro and having no luck getting the update to show up when I turn on the camera. I have, several times, reformatted, regular and overwrite. Then put the sandisk 16gb card in the reader and into the USB. Opened the DCIM folder to see the Leica folder. Drag and dropped the update .upd folder into it. Saw a transfer happening, and can see the 8,807kb upd file in it. Put the card in my camera after seeing it safe to eject. Turn the camera on. Nothing. Take the card out. Put in reader and look inside. There's the file that did not show up in the camera. Thanks for any help. I also tried drag and drop to the DCIM folder with out opening the Leica folder.

Copy it to the root of the card, not in any folder!
