Hybrid version of Summilux 35 ?

Yesterday I saw this link in an other thread with extensive information about this lens:

LEICA SUMMILUX 35mm f/1.4 (1961-1995)

I have some trouble typing this lens of mine. According to the serial number and size of front lens, it seems to be a type II. However this type 2 never had an infinity lock according to the info and mine does ?!

Is this type I or type II or both?

Ken Rockwell's pages are rather interesting, but not to be taken as the Bible in terms of precision about historical details... ;). The "versioning" of the Summilux is a bit more complex... there are 2 versions of the optics (divide at 2.166.700) and several of the "body"...

Hi Luigi, thanks for the info and I feel honoured to have a twin of your lens.

It seems that we have a variant here that is a bit uncommon. It is the second time that I stumble on something that should be different according to the serial.

The first was my M3 which is of the first batch of 80.000 and should not have a frame choice lever., but it does!:cool:

And it has the original Lecia seal so it is not added later on I think.

Hey, Dirk... I hadn't yet given the right attention to the serial number... IT'S A TWIN OF MY ONE ! :) 2.290.126 !!! And identical - no surprising... :). Yep, tonight I'll post a picture of my item... that's real fun..

Though isn't it strange that two following were made one with and one without the focussing tab? (At least I don't see one on your example, Luigi.)

Tab is present... not visible in the posted pic, but is there... ;).. identical to the "127" 's one (to say, its "nail" is chrome with the little surface to press by finger in black paint - paint a little worn)... Also the black paint of the lens is the same... though my pic suffers of the fact that, for laziness, didn't mount a UVIR filter on my Summicron DR when shoot it with my M8... :o

Hi Luigi,

I did notice the odd colour of the 126. ;) I like the analogy with Fiat though...

That is one reason I use the Digilux 2 to take pictures like these.

It would have been even better if you showed the tab of course....

Thanks,

Consecutive serial numbers are so rare. Full side-by-side views of each section might be very valuable.

... well... I probably have found the right camera position to have a perspective like yours... now I will take another paying attention to :

- Same position of the f stop ring

- Same position of the focus ring (I'd say that yours was NOT at infinity....)

- Same back cap

And let's see if the twins are really such... :p

:o... Twins are NOT IDENTICAL... the front rings look (almost exactly, I'd say) at 180° one to the other... I doubt it was a "factory choice"... more probable, one of the two has been dismounted/remounted...

Which one ? I'd say my one... this item of same generation, for sale at Schouten Schouten Select Cameras & Accessories

seems to have the front ring positioned as Dirk's #127.
