visoflex III on M8 with 12/15/28/35/50 lenses

I have been looking on the archives for answers to couple of "simple" questions.

No need to say that I did not find the answers...

1) what are the reproduction factors of visoflex + 12,15, 28, 35 and 50mm lenses with simple M mount.

2) what is the focusing distance.

3) have you got any example?

Thanks

G.

Together with the adapter 16469 (OUFRO) you get 1.4:1 from a distance of 14,5 cm with 35mm and 1:1 from 20,6cm with 50mm. No chance for practical use with shorter lenses; even with 35 and 50mm I don't advise to take much pains for it.

Those numbers I gave are for 24x36mm-format, I am not sure whether they also apply for the M8 format.

G., The most comprehensive answers to your questions are contained in the various editions of the old Leica and Leicaflex Way books written by Andrew Mattheson. His tables address the more common focal lengths of the 50-60s (35mm - 135mm) in various configurations. Of course the tables are for full frame format.

In partial answer to your question, a bayonet mount 35mm complete lens on a Viso III (w/ext tube no. 16469) will allow a 1.4:1 ratio (17 x 26mm) and a bayonet mount 35mm on a Viso III w/bellows II (w/ring 16596) will allow a 5:1 ratio (4.8 - 7.2mm). If you cannot access the book, send me a personal msg w/your email and I'll scan the tables for you. regards, ron:)

You cannot attach a usual lens with M-bayonet without the adapter, as the visoflexe's bayonet is different than that of the camera.

Here you find the Mattheson chart: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/180535-visoflex-combinations.html#post1697757

I must be doing something wrong - my lenses fit just fine...:( The bajonet is exactly the same. For macro that is, infinity is something else. But as others have said, short lenses tend to foul the mirror.

thanks to all.

so if I got it, 50 and 35 can go straight into the visoflex.

but if so, what is the focusing distance?

You can have a look here for samples with the Visoflex III / M8 combo:

Visoflex on M8 - a set on Flickr

I've shot with the 18/35/50/90/135

Each photo in the stream is marked--see ancillary details about the shot on the photo page's right column, beside the photo.

Just pop the lenses onto the Visoflex and shoot macro. Distance to subject is for practical purposes fixed--control of distance/focusing is done by moving the Visoflex closer or further away from the subject.

Cheers!

Will

Of course you are right!

I should stop writing something when I don't have the gear at hand. Otherwise I could have falsified my thought, that it works only with the 16469-adapter.

It's not the same bajonet at the normal lenses for adapting direktly to the M- body and the parts made for the Visoflex. Try to set an Otzfo directly to the M8: you'll se, it would not fit, resp. it can't be locked. The Otzfo for example can only be locked to the Visoflex. The other way around will fit, you can adapt a normal lens to the Visoflex, but you won't set the focus to far distances.

Yes... the problem is not the bayonet in itself, which is the same, but the fact that a M body has also the RF roller: the BM mounts of the lenses have a cutout corresponding to the roller, while devices made for the Viso, like OTZFO, have not it (I think is someway risky to force an OTZFO on a body, apart of course that it hasn't any practical sense).

Impressive the 18 on Viso !!! And agree with your remark... :)

"Item was literally 1mm away from the 18mm's front element.

So, it's possible. Just not practical. "

I tried for fun a Super Angulon 21 the same way (mirror up, guess focus...) :p
