haroldp Posted June 1, 2011 Share #41 Â Posted June 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Your biggest risk in Milan is getting hit by a car. staying on the sidewalk will not always save you. Â Italian cities and people are generally safe. Pickpockets are around but violence is rare. Â Get to La Scala if you can. Â I have always enjoyed Milan. Â Regards ... Advertisement Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Hi haroldp, Take a look here Is it safe to take M9 to Milan. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
viramati Posted June 1, 2011 Share #42  Posted June 1, 2011 What have you got against Neasden? Brixton maybe... 1. Don't be foolish, wherever you carry an expensive item 2. Get insurance! 3. Enjoy your camera  I don't know Milan, but have had no hassles elsewhere in Italy. In any case, thieves are looking at opportunities, not camera brands or models.  I live in Brixton and regularly go walk around with 2 M9's. what is wrong with you people. maybe we should all stay locked in our houses taking pictures of the cat
Guest nafpie Posted June 1, 2011 Share #43 Â Posted June 1, 2011 I am going to milan next week for work and was wondering if its safe to take my M9 with me or should i just leave it at home and take the D-Lux4? Â A Leica M9 at home is safe, but that is not what the Leica was built for. Â Stefan

likealeica Posted June 2, 2011 Share #46 Â Posted June 2, 2011 I have taken my M cameras to Milan, Rome, Florence, etc. many times with never a problem. Also inYugoslavia when it was still Titoland, and Argentina and Uraguay. No one ever seemed very interested in the M's anyway. Maybe it was because they didn't look very "flashy" like a lot of the SLR stuff people were carrying. Here were my camera rules. Â 1. Never leave the cameras/camera bag in the room. Where I went, the equipment went, even if it was just downstairs to breakfast, and even if I didn't intend to use it. 2. In restaurants, or theaters, or metros, or anywhere else ehere i was sitting, camera bag on my lap, with strap twisted around my wrist or between my ,egs on the floor with my leg through tge strap. 3. On buses when standing, camera bag around my neck, but hanging in front of me, not on my side. 4. And most important, making myself realize that lif I couldn't enjoy the M cameras on these great trips, what was the point of having them. Â PS. The only time I was ever "mugged" was in Montmarte in Paris. Thry didn't go for the camera bag, they went for my back trouser pocket thinking that's where my wallet was - which it wasn't. At that time swinging my camera bag at the 3 fellows in a wide arc cleared them and the space in a hurry.

NZDavid Posted June 2, 2011 Share #48 Â Posted June 2, 2011 Is it safe it take your M9 to Milan? No. Please send it to me. Â Seriously, this kind of question comes up quite a lot. I took the M6 and lenses to Naples, wandered through the streets taking pictures of Vespas, none of whose riders snatched anything. Cats on Vespas? That could be dangerous. Â Leicas are at no greater risk of thievery than any other camera. Unless thieves have extensive knowledge about special Leica editions and models, which seems unlikely. Â You have got to be careful everywhere. Keep your camera around your neck or shoulder, if in crowds keep one hand on it at all times. But you bought it to use it. Enjoy it! MarkP Posted June 2, 2011 Share #50 Â Posted June 2, 2011 Insure it (as you should for any travel) , Take it, Use it. Â Most people, thieves included, don't know what a Leica is nor it's value, but would dismiss it as a quaint olde worlde camera. Â Mark
Viv Posted June 2, 2011 Share #51 Â Posted June 2, 2011 Milan is as safe as most large cities. Â Just take normal precautions.

pico Posted June 2, 2011 Share #54  Posted June 2, 2011 Don't bring your m9, Milan is a dangerous place. They have the Mafia  When I was a boy in a largely Italian and Irish first-generation American town (Providence, Rhode Island), we did not call it the Mafia. We called it the Government. After decades of competition, the Government won and the Irish got the civil servants' jobs.
