spylaw4 Posted June 15, 2011 Share #21 Posted June 15, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having done a quick check on who can make what date - it looks like the 16th is overall the most popular. May I suggest that we first go to the Museum of London then on to the St Pancras area where there are numerous "Street" photography exhibitions - see the OP's link. Lunch could be either at St P or at a local pub/resto in Aldersgate St. (if it's open Sat. lunchtime). I'll check!

spylaw4 Posted June 21, 2011 Share #22 Posted June 21, 2011 I've just found an alternative post-museum location - the Whitechapel Gallery is holding an exhibition of photographs by Thomas Struth (July 6 - Sept 30) so an E.End visit might prove interesting - Brick Lan later and all that...? Tim B Posted June 21, 2011 Share #23 Posted June 21, 2011 Brian, Thanks so much for doing the research for our meeting. I think I'm still tending to the St. Pancras option, but I'll happily go with the flow. To my shame I hadn't known much about Thomas Struth. I don't know whether the £9.50 admission fee (£8.50 without inclusive Gift Aid donation) at the Whitechapel would be a disincentive for anyone - we wouldn't want some to feel not part of the meeting due to such a factor. But the exhibition sounds really interesting. Tim

biglouis Posted June 22, 2011 Share #25 Posted June 22, 2011 I have a natural antipathy to the Whitechapel gallery because of its elitist manner and its unpleasant attitude towards local artists (don't contact us because on principal we don't reply to unsolicited work). I'd never pay £9.50 to them unless under duress. But as I may not make it anyway don't make a decision based on my input.

By contrast the Old Truman Brewery is a much more welcoming place. Was up last week for the Uni exhibitions - some amazing young photographers coming through. spylaw4 Posted June 23, 2011 Share #27 Posted June 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok, Ok - no Whitechapel then. But I shall go myself sometime as the sample shown in last weeks FT Weekend were great. Just thought it might be somewhere different, that's all. Conversely I'm not keen on the OTB and environs - just shows you can't please all the .....etc.

If I am let out of school early I can always make it for quick beer and a chat. What is 'OTB'? I'm lost. Louis

SuperFish Posted June 25, 2011 Share #37 Posted June 25, 2011 If anyone is interested, I'm one of the 6 finalists of the London Street Photography Competition (Student Award). We have a show at the Orange Dot Gallery, London, starting from the 7th of July. We're having a preview night on the 6th, so if any fellow Leica user's want to come to the preview (we have free drinks too), here's the flyer. Regards, Rich
Nick De Marco Posted June 29, 2011 Share #38 Posted June 29, 2011 I am up for it on 16th. Looking forward to meet many of you again. Been going through an expensive pleasurable bout of camera buying recently, got a lovely M3 and M4-P to go with the M6 M7 M2 and M8 - ughh don't know which I will bring but must bring the X100 along for those who haven't seen it too. And Ripon can come too - I bought a user CL for the 40 summicron lens on it, and gave Ripon the CL so he can now officially be a Leica User. See you all on 16th I hope (don't start toooo early) Nick
