Good Morning everyone!

I finally got my long-awaited steel grey M9 yesterday :). What a fantastic piece of equipment. Well... actually I haven't even tried it yet but I could just see that it's absolutely FANTASTIC :D However, it almost feels like having a beautiful car without the wheels, hence I can't get anywhere with it... because I still have no lens for it. :o I am still waiting for the Summilux 50 & Summicron 28 (both in chrome) and was told that they should be available in about 1,5 to 2 months. So what should I do now with my M9?.... any good ideas? beside staring at it every now and then...caressing & polishing the screen gently :p... plus charging the battery?!?

Regards.

Thats one heck of a question really. To have to choose just one lens is why I opted to go Voigtlander and buy their 3rd party A-team. I muled all of them on film and a partial test on my sony nex, I would have gone insane having to look at an M9 body with no lenses.

Turned out allot better than the other ways to go non-leica; but I still can say if I had the money I would grab a summilux 50mm.

However in your condition with no other lenses you would be best served with a summicron 28mm; it will give you the most flexibility as even if its a touch slower its better to be stuck with a wide. They are both exceptional lenses but I can stand by that advice.

Go buy ANY 35 or 50mm Leica lens that fits your budget at this moment. Take lots of pictures to make time go by while waiting for the other two lenses. Be amazed and start doubting you really need the 50 Summilux. Take delivery of your new lenses and be amazed again. Start wondering whether or not to sell your temporary, low budget lens. Realize it is emotionally impossible to part with a Leica lens - no matter how "bad" it is.

Enjoy a lifetime of photography starting TODAY :)

Buy a cheap lens and start shooting ASAP.

One day spent not shooting is just one too many for a beautiful machine like the M9. GO GO GO. Judging by your selection of equipment, shelling out a little bit of money for a 35mm Zeiss ZM lens (the f/2.8 Biogon comes to mind) should be something to seriously consider.

I recommend the 35mm because it seems to be a convenient gap in the lenses you have ordered. And the Biogon is amazing at f/2.8 - f/5.6; even when compared to its Leica competitors at respective apertures. (Oh yea, the Biogon also comes in a sexy chrome finish ;) )

That's what I would do.

Summaron 35, cheap, compact, retains its value, wonderful at F4.0 and there about. It's chrome too. This prognosis of when your lenses will come is dubious, it could come tomorrow and it can be september too, with your summer coming on

Absolutely agree....even only a day without a lens with M9 on my hand is really hard to bear :( There was a 35 Summicron (and in chrome) available yesterday when I collected my camera. I was actually tempted to get it but I thought it would be too closed to the 50mm. I rented the M9 a few months back together with the Summilux 50 and I absolutely loved it, that's why I decided to go for the combo of 28-50 (and maybe) also the 90. I wonder if that Cron 35 lens still available....

Just walk into your camera dealer and pluck any decent used lens off the shelf. Sell it back to him when you get yours. With the stuff you ordered with him it should not be any problem. Heck, he should give you a loaner lens.

Congratulations, Aurea! I'm glad you like the camera. It must be agony not having a lens but you've been given some good suggestions. If I were you, I'd go and see what your dealer can do for you. Oh, and don't disregard the Summarit series, especially if you're considering a 35mm.

Get a pinhole body cap and start making pictures. Very inexpensive solution until you can afford or get a lens. :D

Leica M Body Cap aperture .25mm/.0098" f182

Or you can get a "Zone Plate" cap.

Looks to me that you will have a great set with the 28 and 50 once they arrive.

The main 'gap' I see in your future setup is a very compact and light lens to take with you when you want to go out without a camera bag.

Why not buy a collapsible Summicron 50 or Elmarit 50? If you can afford it, a Summarit 50 or Elamarit 35 will be even better. You certainly will be tempted to keep it as your go everywhere lens, even after the other two arrive.

Get a 35, any 35, new, used, Leica, Zeiss, Voigtlander., etc etc..... You can always sell again for a very small or (if you wait long enough) no loss. You may also find it to be a nice go everywhere lens that sits between the 28 and 50 yet has aspects of both.

Keep in mind, your warranty is ticking away if you've registered the body. Also, if there is an issue with it, best to send it back in while you are waiting for your new lenses, instead of waiting for the lenses, finding there's a problem, and then.....

So get a lens - TODAY.

Buy a M2 to go with the summaron 35/2.8 - you will be much happier with a film M as a backup:D

Edit: and the summaron 35/2.8 is one heck of a lens, you will not regret owning one.
