Opportunity to buy Factory M8

Go for it. I've had my M8 for several years and after using a variety of lenses, mostly CV's I bought a pre aspheric factory refurbished and coded 28 mm elmarit 2.8.

Great combination. Unless you are printing larger than 16x20, the M8 format is all you will need.

Unfortunately, the free IR cut filter program has expired...talked with Dave Elwell today. So add another $150.

There are some options at e-bay. Mine has factory garantie through a re- furb. Works fine and adds confidence for a year or so. The dealer added two filters for free.

I remain a happy M8 user which suits me well especially since I don't have the funds for an M9. It would be great to have a full frame M camera but I remain pleased with the M8. $2500.00 sounds like an excellent deal.

I recently bought a second-hand M8. After registering the camera on the Leica site, I found there was a free offer for 2 UV/IR filters. I applied and in about two weeks time received the two filters, absolutely free, from Solms. They did ask me to email a scanned copy of the card which had the two barcodes for the camera.

Strangely, i was offered 2 leica UV/IR filters even though the previous owner already claimed his. It suddenly appeared on the Leica website and so i gave it a shot, 2 weeks later 2 filters arrived in my mailbox!

May i ask how do you know that the previous owner claimed his filters?

Normally to get free filters we must register the body and we can't do this if the body is registered already. We can apply for a new registration but Leica asks for the warranty card then and checks if the filters have been claimed previously. Perhaps this check hasn't been done properly?

According to the previous owner(who could not claim the filters) the filters were claimed by the first owner. When I purchased the camera from the previous owner, i found out that i could register the camera under my name.

This would mean that the camera was not registred at Leica before your purchase and that neither the first nor the second owner did get any free filter for lack of registration. But i may be wrong of course.
