Olsen Posted October 14, 2011 Share #404 Posted October 14, 2011 Jaques, Somewhere over Denmark during the winter?
jaques Posted October 15, 2011 Share #405 Posted October 15, 2011 Not Denmark- wrong Hemisphere... and wrong season. The little lake things are salt pans... it is quite obscure I will admit... but I looked back through this thread and there are plenty of very obscure images that are ultimately identified- so i thought what the heck... the plane is about to land at a regional airport if that helps. jaques Posted October 15, 2011 Share #407 Posted October 15, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) no still many, many miles distant... - this is in the Southern Hemisphere- and it is an Island- off the coast of an Island...
Michael Geschlecht Posted October 16, 2011 Share #408 Posted October 16, 2011 (edited) Hello Again jaques, Could the island in the photo possibly be 1 of the islands off the coast of the island of Trinidad? Best Regards, Michael Edited October 16, 2011 by Michael Geschlecht
jaques Posted October 16, 2011 Share #409 Posted October 16, 2011 nope- still many miles distant... I guess a few clues are in order: This Island was cut from a mainland towards the end of the last ice age. Until the 18th century no humans had lived on the Island for at least 10 thousand years- or if they did no evidence has been found. For this reason the abundant wildlife had no fear of humans- there were also few predators on the Island making the animals even more naive. The result was a slaughter when the first European explorers arrived... Today the Island is visited by many tourists every year. One of the major attractions is a colony of sea lions... dcoombs Posted October 16, 2011 Share #410 Posted October 16, 2011 So, we are talking about the Galapagos? Doug
jaques Posted October 17, 2011 Share #411 Posted October 17, 2011 (edited) I wish- I would love to have landed there in a plane... No the Island we are looking for is much closer to (my) home. Think Southern Hemispere- indeed if you turned that plane to the right and flew in a straight line you would hit the Antarctic (assuming you had a long, long range fuel tank...). The Island only has a small population- perhaps 4600 souls. Another hint: there are some remarkable rocks on the Island....
