Yes, 'my' city is in Alsace, it is on the West bank of the Rhine and indeed is almost smack in the middle between the two cities you mention.

All I can think of is Strasbourg.

Stuart, your thoughts were correct. It is indeed Strasbourg (or Straßburg in German as I mentioned that the pigeon could be bi-lingual....) - you deserve to win as you also correctly guessed the gender of the bird.

 

Taken from the top of Notre Dame Cathedral with a Leica R6 and 180/3.4 Apo-Telyt quite a few years ago.
