I am having the same problem. File downloads ok, unzips ok, is visible on the SD card but I get no prompt and on the menu still shows FW v1. PS I have previously updated my M9 FW without problem so somewhat confused.

Maybe you should all try to format the SD-card IN the camera before copying the "X1-V20.upd" file once again and try the update?

Those who are having problems...

Have you tried to download the file more than once?

Does your filename say "X1-V20.upd" EXACTLY or does it say "X1-V20.upd(2)" or "X1-V20.upd(3)" etc?

Regards,

Bill

Just installed it.

Initial impressions:

- the manual focus options are nice - I still think AF is how I would prefer to use this camera

- I feel the AF improvement is there for me. Most important the fact that once the AF has adjusted to a certain distance it doesnt have to go back and forth when you focus again. This means I can first focus on the subject and when I wait for the right moment and the subject only moves slightly the AF speed is much faster than with old firmware.

-what I totally do not understand: auto iso setting, longest exp time: still 1/30 as shortest option. Why not 1/60,1/125,1/250 ???? (like in other Leica cameras) This makes auto iso in A mode unusable for everything where moving people are in the image. I see absolutly no reason why this is the case, I tol it to Leica 6 months ago, and they didnt do anything about it.

Can anybody here explain me the reason or if there is any sense behind this ???

-I still believe the x1 is the best compromise between size, weight, functionality and IQ for a portable camera (for me) . The firmware is a very welcome AF improvement for my use.

I've just noticed that when I insert the SD card with the update all my settings are changed even though I don't see the firmware v2. Very odd.

If you'll excuse the expression, EU-BL**DY-REKA!!!!!!!

All I did was change to another SD card. I was using a SanDisk 32GB Ultra and I swapped it for an old SD @GB 60x Apacer card and it worked first time. Bizarre.

Thanks for all the suggestions anyway.

Regards

Andrew

AF speed in low light is noticeably faster. AF in normal light the same, and since the AF of the X1 has always worked well in normal to bright light there is really nothing to fix.

It's a moot point now, but the AF in normal light was never fast enough (compared to most other AF cameras out there).

Luckily, MF is better.

Mike, I have tried both and Bill, it says X1-V20.upd.

regards

Andrew

Can you confirm that when you look at the camera card on the PC, as drive D:, E:, F: etc. etc., that the only file is the X1-V20.upd ??? No folders or hidden files?

Then when you disconnect and turn the camera off, do you keep the Info button pressed down firmly before, during, and for a couple of seconds after turning the camera on?

As you seem to be the only one having this kind of problem you should reconsider your procedure. Read the installing instructions carefully. A lot of people here already took the time and tried to help you and you are not even posting one single answer to their questions. For example it is still unanswered weather you unzipped the file before copying it to your SD-card. Did you do that? What is the suffix of the file on the SD-card?

I find you a bit frustrating.

Mike

My apologies. I tend to panic with IT matters and am not used to firmware updates. The problem was that I was not unzipping the file properly. I have now succeeded in updating to Firmware Version 2.0. Thanks to everyone who offered advice which is very much appreciated.

Best wishes

Can anyone comment specifically on how the AF speed with firmware 2.0 compares to that on the Ricoh GXR A12?

i normally wait at least a week before updating anything (just in case there are any undiscovered "bugs" in the update) however, everyone who has successfully updated seems to be genuinely happy with the results..... so before i update tonite when i get home-any reason not to update??

Have the GXR 50mm equiv. A12 and the X1 in front of me on the coffee table. Both just upgraded to the latest FW (Ricoh's was available yesterday). The GXR focuses clearly faster in good as well as low light. Additionally, the GXR's shutter lag is neglectable the X1's can be a problem. Never tried the 28mm equiv. A12, but heard it is faster than the "50" A12, so it would beat the X1's AF by quite a margin.

Now with good MF and ZF functionality (distance scale, MF lock) the X1 has been transformed into a good street shooter, the shutter lag will prevent it from being a truly stealth one.
