It reminds me of the Clarendon Hotel in Chistchurch, NZ, for which the original facade was saved and incorporated into the new 14 storey black glass highrise. I have mixed feelings about the way it's done: I'm glad that the facade has been saved, but at the same time it screams, and will always scream: "Look at the graceful building we pulled down to make room for our shiney, soul-less box". [ATTACH]23177[/ATTACH] A nice shot of a very interesting way to blend classic and modern - I'm sure Prince Charles would be suitably horrified. An earlier post of buildings in Madrid reveals a very similar concept (even to the colour of the glass). I wonder, given the latin link, whether it might be the same architect.
