A novel way of retaining an old building whilst getting yourself a modern glass box! And yes your eyes do not deceive you - it has been built inside the old facade. farnz Posted January 26, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 26, 2007 Well seen, Brian! It reminds me of the Clarendon Hotel in Chistchurch, NZ, for which the original facade was saved and incorporated into the new 14 storey black glass highrise. I have mixed feelings about the way it's done: I'm glad that the facade has been saved, but at the same time it screams, and will always scream: "Look at the graceful building we pulled down to make room for our shiney, soul-less box". Pete.
stuny Posted January 26, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 26, 2007 Brian - Instantly amusing, amazing and sad. Very nicely captured.
Peter41951 Posted January 27, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 27, 2007 Very interesting architecture. Would the shot benefit from a bit more exposure?
Guest flatfour Posted January 27, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 27, 2007 A bit like the glass ball on top of the Reichstag in Berlin but more striking.

A nice shot of a very interesting way to blend classic and modern - I'm sure Prince Charles would be suitably horrified. An earlier post of buildings in Madrid reveals a very similar concept (even to the colour of the glass). I wonder, given the latin link, whether it might be the same architect. Here's the link (its the last shot of the set). http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/architecture/14470-last-daylight-gran-v-madrid.html
