Just get out my Leicaflex SL for a shooting at minus 7°C

Here some pictures

Kodak TMAX400 just developed yesterday in Kodak Pro D76 in bath thermostat

at 22°C (water was at 16°C in winter)

Camera works well at this temperature. It reminds me many years ago I was in mountain

at minus 20°C with this camera ....

Not need spend money to buy a digit.camera... :)

My only electronic camera Leica RE stopped working this week.

I had a R3, R4 and a R5 and they had all electronic problems and finally they give up working...

My three Leicaflex SL are still working. One SL got this week a new 'Hemwerk' for the long shutter times. Costs €75,-

That´s why I first never trusted early electronic cameras before.

After I sold a lot of my Leica gear I start collecting mechanical Nikon´s

untill I run into the Nikkormat EL.

Beaten up and more used than my professional Nikon F´s it still runs like a Swiss Clock

and the lightmeter measures absolut correctly !

My point is - it´s not so easy like mechanic is good, electronic is bad.

Maybe mechanic problems are easier to fix that´s a advantage.....

Besides my use of the Leicaflex SL I still do like the mechanical Ricoh KR5 with the (Pentax) K bajonet.

At the moment very cheap to obtain...For the money one of the best cheap mechanical cameras you can buy.

It works at the same way like the Leicaflex and R6. It is the same concept. The metering is still excellent.

The Rikenon and Pentax lenses are very good. The working of most Japanese mechanical cameras from the '70 en '80 are still very good.

I speak about vinyl dics in my previous postIt is like the film with all its qualities that we abandoned in favor of the digital , more expensive and which is not worth what we have in film : fidelity of color, beautiful and homogeneous black and white , no banding, no inhomogeneous black , no moiré,  no aliaising , no (too) sharp lines and "cutting"  edges etc ....

I also think you are sane. I also bought my SL in 1969, but it disappeared when sent to be serviced by an independent tech a few years back. So I replaced it with a slightly later one with the 3 position meter switch. I was able to get the meter cell replaced to restore accuracy, but the microprism screen is a bit aged. Still a joy to use though. Congratulations on getting yours fully restored.

Oh, and I still have the Dynaco tube amps I built in the 1960s as well as the AR 3a speakers (replaced woofer foam).

Tom and a911 , thanks for your support and nice black Leicaflex well patined .I do not often

see in black .

Yes , my Leicaflex was bought new when I was student and paid on credit ... no a lot of money

when you are student :)  but I like already Leica camera at this time.

The shutter is silent with mechanical noise , better than my R8 also a good camera (now sold).

No electronic in the shutter mechanism , all mechanical not need battery !

For my last revision , Leica Wetzlar change for me microprisms and they still have part

of the camera 46 years after production .  My hat to Leica !

For Dynaco tubes it's an excellent american amplifier with nice sound . What tubes have

you ?

With the Elmarit-R 2,8/35 or the Elmarit-R 2,8/28 the Leicaflex SL is an excellent street photo camera....

Have you some pictures to share ?

Thanks

Henry

Here's a shot taken at the Leica Store Bellevue yesterday. It shows me speaking about automotive photography next to my Leicaflex SL2 tandem set up for shooting up to 8 fps back in the analog days. Leica's SL, which shoots up to 11 fps, is on the countertop.

I am relatively new to the forum and had not seen this earlier, but your comment struck a nerve with me. I have a first version Leicaflex that I doubt has ever been serviced, yet it still works perfectly in arctic conditions. I have had several cameras that have been recently serviced that have failed me in cold weather. Very irritating!

And yes my camera has mirror lockup. It actually irritates me as occasionally I will flip it up when I am trying to shoot very quickly. I may tape it down with gaffer's tape.

May be it needs a revision and a little drops of oil  ....

I took some color pictures recently and It's still a good camera

sorry to repeat  myself !
