skahde Posted June 7, 2023 Share #661 Posted June 7, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Finally, the M4 I picked from the bay this winter has arrived back from a CLA. The shelf-queen is alive again, shutter is running smooth as butter. I combined it with a recently acquired Voigtländer Ultron 2/35 VM I which to my taste quite nicely repeats the combination of chrome and black on the camera. I would have prefered to get another Summicron 2/35 ver. IV but as everyone knows it's prices went up beyond reason. The Summi is a good lens but not that good. For a modern look, this Voigtländer will do just fine and for a classic look I have a Summaron 3,5/35mm LTM which I had the pleasure to clean and relube myself and suprised me with sharp and contrasty results after the procedure. Time to lift the curtain... Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I don't see any significant difference of the bo-keh between the two either. The first batch wasn't started until November 1966 and your serial number is newer than mine. I've kinda guessed mine was built in January 1967 (11777**) but who knows for sure? Yours looks very minty! Edited August 5, 2023 by CSG123

I picked up mine from a Leica rep who delivered it to my ship when I was a naval officer in the Mediterranean...they discounted prices on all their gear for service members. I had wanted to get a Pentax Spotmatic, but fellow officer, who had been a Leica salesperson in prior civilian life, lent me his M3 for a couple of weeks to try out and I fell in love. It was never babied, and at the time of the photo, above, had accompanied me on a number of missions and assignments.

What did pay you for it, one or two monthly salary?

Greenhilltony Posted September 6, 2023 Share #679 Posted September 6, 2023 Can anybody tell me if a fully CLA'd M4 has comparable smoothness in advance lever and shutter noises to the CLA'd M3? My M4 has been sent for shutter curtains replacement and the master said it needed a CLA because the curtains were tightened too much (making the shutter much louder than normal) and the advance lever had significant friction forces when it was pushed to the end. My lately purchased SS M3 is much smoother and quieter, and the shutter curtains do not give a "punch" like vibrations after released like the M4 did. I would expect a normal M4 to perform as greatly as the M3 does, am I right?
