1. Well put, but the Leica documentation that was supplied with my lens, as well as the lens has "Leica APO-TELYT-M 1:3.4/135", written on it; and, the widest aperture opening painted in white on the lens, is similarly "3.4". ;)

2. Leica, apparently made a number of 135mm-m lenses in the past; and, so far, this135mm lens I purchased months ago (after, receiving a lot of valuable assistance from LFI Forum members, over in the M9 section), is the most current Leica 135mm-m version (for months now, retailers in the USA have not been able to get anymore of this lens, and some rumors are that it's because Leica is updating this lens to make it even better with digital sensors, such as the M9 sensor).

3. Here's a leica link that describes the 135mm-m lens I own, as an f/3.4 lens: :)

... any chance of 24 threads showing how to dismantle these lenses and reassemble them, Mark?

Pete.

I generally shoot with my M8.2 using only 3 or 4 of my lenses. I consider the rest to be part of my camera/lens collection (I own 19 lenses in Leica thread mount and 40 in Leica M mount).

It's only a very small error: the sum of apertures is 18.45 and the error is 0.1. That's an error of about 0.54 percent.

:D

Indeed... clearly Leica christened it as 3,4 to match the Apo Telyt 180 for R which had acquired a (well deserved) fame of excellence... and probably 3,5 was considered too "old fashion" (resembles the Elmar... ;)) for lenses of new technology... btw, Leitz had a long history in making a "marketing usage" of apertures... in the '30s they made the Hektor 73 at f 1,9 probably just to show they could "break the f2 barrier"... :)

Pete.

You can also dismantle and reassemble in mixed ways... here's the Telyt 280 "version 2,5" (V3 lenshead on V2 focusing mount)... :D
