Good news but I think you owe GiftSix an apology. Sure, the delivery and communications fell below your (unreasonable?) expectations but there were known problems with infrastructure and I'm sure their English is better than your Chinese. Your plan to open the package in front of a witness showed a surprising level of xenophobia.

Sorry, but your shouting from the rooftops to rubbish a supplier based on the flimsiest of evidence suggests it's better you don't take even small risks like this. Next time, do us a favour and buy from your local dealer. You may pay through the nose but you'll sleep easy at night and give us all a break from your rantings.

As a counterpoint, my own experience of HK Supplies is that they provide top quality service and I've never once had the slightest doubt about the safety of my transactions with them. In the last year alone, the money saved has more than paid for an M8.

How's the lens BTW?

I am staggered. I really did not expect to see this lens. Buy it now, till arrival at my post box, forty days on the nose. Anyway...I have got to go and sit down, I really do.

Might have been the letter I wrote them..;)

Not pointing any fingers at anybody here at all, just a reminder for all of us....

Please remember that personal attacks and flaming other members is not a part of the Leica Camera User Forum's culture. Please take issues you have with another member in this regard offline.

Thanks.

Congrats Rob.

Cue the strings...and the sunset...curtain down please.

A happy end then. I said in one of my earlier posts that whilst I've had trouble buying via e bay in almost all situations the problems have been resolved or resolved themselves. I think so far I have only lost money on one transaction out of nearly 300, so the system does work, although I'm careful about who I deal with as much as one can be anyway.

The sum of money involved isn't a small risk - not for me anyway!

The alarm bells rang for me when you weren't able to obtain contact info for the seller. It is a rule/condition of e bay that you provide your telephone number and address. The fact that Giftsix didn't do this, and their lack of proper communication even taking into account the local issues, would have led me to panic in the same way, given the amount of money involved.

They are also apparently using false images of a store on their e bay pages to give the impression that you are buying from a high street type retailer, which doesn't appear to be the case. I would consider this to be fraudulent behaviour, if it is indeed the case. That they don't appear in any directories is another sign that all is not what it seems.

Lessons learnt for me are to verify the sellers contact information in advance before buying a high value item, especially when remitting funds outside Paypal.

Rob, I'm glad you got your package. Just wanted to comment on Mark's posting (and I don't want to start a fight here).

The communication expectations were absolutely reasonable, he spent a lot of money on that lens, and wanted to have some feedback from the seller. fluid emailing is the very least you can expect. I highly doubt the earthquake affected communications of OVER A MONTH? with KH? sorry, this is not an isolated village in the middle of nowhere continental china, this is HK. I'm sure things were fixed within a couple of weeks.

Opening the shipment in front of a witness is not xenophobia, it is just not trusting the guy who, out of the blue, sends "something" that alegedly is the lens. Given the faulty information in eBay website (contact info) and continuous delays I thinki it was a very wise move.

I've been following this thread with interest because I've never bought from eBay before, since I'm afraid something like this might happen, sadly, it seems that my worst fears are confirmed. To me it doesn't matter that fraud happens only very rarely, if it happens the time I put my money, the statistics it useless to me.

Peace man!!

They don't call it E-prey for nothing.

I had good luck the one time I bought some stereo cables there, but it wasn't a whole lot of money anyway.

Maybe Rob's feedback needs to remain between him and HKS this time.

Thanks.

:D Thanks guys.

And Mark I know you read the my first thread, so your comment is tongue in cheek and you really love me.

But seriously you have a point. We should all get used to forty day delivery with no communication and ignoring all mails on buy it now three available immediate dispatch .

Photo.net maintains a data base of dealer experiences from its members and I'd recommend anyone with a story to tell, good or bad, drop in and make a short entry:

Photo.net Dealer Feedback Section

Ultimately you will help yourself by having feedback from others to rely on for your next purchase, as well as building up a history of customer experience that may save someone else some grief, or give them a good buying experience, in the future.

Thanks.

Hi Rob , I am happy for you this must be be a relieve for sure. Actually I did some research myself and thought the seller is less than fully reliable. As well as that there is no way I will consider his company

40 days from Hongkong wont do. I purchased a set of batteries from there it took three days to get here ( Melbourne ). Enjoy your new lens , the photos will be so much better now that you can sleep again.

Cheers Manfred

I have nothing against Giftsix personally but their 'no VAT' ad is curious knowing that VAT is paid in the import countries...
