the warrior Posted November 23, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello. M8.2 I recently bought a very new, clean. I would like to know the date of manufacture, the serial number is the 35588xx. Can you help me?. This camera I have changed by the M8, which had some coffee stains on the screen, I think it's common. What is known issues M8.2?, I hope to be as good as the M8. Greetings. One photo for you. jaapv Posted November 23, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 23, 2010 The main issue is that your wallet gets thinner and thinner as you buy more and more lenses....
barcoder Posted November 23, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 23, 2010 Judging by the photo, it looks like there are no issues of significance. It's lovely. You should post this in the landscape forum next time.
WestMichigan Posted November 23, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 23, 2010 I'd like to second what BarCoder suggested -AND- suggest that you post an image or two in the M8 Photography thread. Judging by the photo, it looks like there are no issues of significance. It's lovely. You should post this in the landscape forum next time.
MikeD700 Posted November 23, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 23, 2010 On the contrary. I can see the coffee stains. Maybe they wouldn't show up so bad in the photo section
Nicoleica Posted November 23, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 23, 2010 On the contrary. I can see the coffee stains. Maybe they wouldn't show up so bad in the photo section Mike, you really must stop using your monitor as a table top. Or at least invest in a coaster. jaapv Posted November 23, 2010 Share #8 Posted November 23, 2010 No- the camera number is but very loosely related to the production date, as Leica assigns batches of numbers.
christakis Posted November 23, 2010 Share #9 Posted November 23, 2010 The main issue is that your wallet gets thinner and thinner as you buy more and more lenses.... I always use a debit card to avoid this problem ;-)
christakis Posted November 23, 2010 Share #10 Posted November 23, 2010 No- the camera number is but very loosely related to the production date, as Leica assigns batches of numbers. If you know... are lens serial numbers the came as camera serial numbers or do they use a different list for the two?
WestMichigan Posted November 23, 2010 Share #11 Posted November 23, 2010 ... Or maybe he needs a sippy cup... Wait! Did I say that Out Loud? Oooops Ahhhhh - Welcome to the M8 Forum D700! I followed your postings in the thread where Richard(?) journaled about his thought processing regarding upgrading from his X1. There was good reading in that thread, good humor as well. (and I am including your posts in that comment!) Richard in MIchigan Mike, you really must stop using your monitor as a table top. Or at least invest in a coaster. Guest Ming Rider Posted November 23, 2010 Share #12 Posted November 23, 2010 Only downside is a few dust spots on the sensor, top left region of the photo. Besides that, beautifull.
blimey Posted November 24, 2010 Share #13 Posted November 24, 2010 I use it for my coffee mug. Yes, that is a coffee mug that resembles the Nikkor lense. by the way, that is my recently cleaned M8.2... Leica NJ got it back to me in 1 month! ohh I miss thee. Welcome, dear visitor! CharlesL Posted November 24, 2010 Share #14 Posted November 24, 2010 Only downside is a few dust spots on the sensor, top left... I despair of keeping an M8 sensor clean. However, in practice for an outdoor photographer sensor spots seem to be visible in skies, rarely anywhere else. (The speck removal and smudge tools in Picture Window Pro are great for washing out these spots.) But I am a novice with limited experience. Are they a typical problem in other things? jlindstrom Posted November 24, 2010 Share #15 Posted November 24, 2010 Hi, As you've seen, it's very hard to judge age by serial numbers with these cameras. But there are a couple of things to consider.. first of all M8.2 was launched in late september 2008, which means it's max around 2 years old. Second, which firmware is/was in the camera when you got it? If the camera software hasn't been updated, then that could give some hints as to when it was produced.. providing it has old firmware in it. //Juha
jaapv Posted November 24, 2010 Share #16 Posted November 24, 2010 If you know... are lens serial numbers the came as camera serial numbers or do they use a different list for the two?Different altogether. No "matching numbers" for (most) Leica cameras.

I followed your postings in the thread where Richard(?) journaled about his thought processing regarding upgrading from his X1. There was good reading in that thread, good humor as well. (and I am including your posts in that comment!) Richard in MIchigan Thanks RichardinMichigan! What would life be if we took it all so seriously? Anyways, where's "Michigan"? Come to think of it, where's "West Michigan"? West of East Michigan, west of Mid Michigan? It really makes my day to read the posts on the M8-forum (the M9-forum is even more full of sob stories). Nikon forums are very boring in comparison. Hardly any complaints. I'll keep on reading and keep on posting, even if I choke on my coffee every once in a while, and soil my cracked display... RichardM8 Posted November 24, 2010 Share #18 Posted November 24, 2010 Nikon forums ar every boring in comparison. As are the cameras. Extremely good... but boring...
MikeD700 Posted November 24, 2010 Share #19 Posted November 24, 2010 Fortunately photographing is about images, not about gear, although for some that is a concept that proves difficult to embrace.
MikeD700 Posted November 24, 2010 Share #20 Posted November 24, 2010 On other forums/fora posters don't feel the need to constantly justify their choice of equipment and defend that choice by putting down other choices. Maybe that makes them so boring, and the fact that the products are usually well made, so there aren't so many sob stories,
