photokina - Your Questions To Leica

Will there be a new version of the X1 with faster AF and interchangeable lenses?

Or a worthy successor to the Digilux 2?

Or a digital solution for R lenses (+8)

Seems lots of people want SLR quality in a compact package -- back to Leica roots.

Will there be new marketing incentives/offers/trips/publications for loyal Leica photographers?

I would like Leica to consider:

Adding to the M9 an optional right-hand grip that contains an additional battery to prolong the life of a session AND a brighter LCD which would be easier to support with the grip with battery. Also, bottom access to the baseplate battery and card without removing the base plate.

Is there some possibility of squeezing the shutter speed readout into the VF when shooting in Manual mode please?

Periodically I shoot in darkened theatres under stress and I find the lighting 'demands' I shoot manual. Under stress it is easy to lose track of the current shutter speed (which can't easily be read in the dark). The red exposure arrows are fine for just exposure, but critical control of shutter speed is just as vital. This would be nice even under 'normal' shooting conditions.

If it meant some intrusion into the frameline area, I don't believe that would matter as they are not a critically accurate devise anyway.

1) Have they been investigating combined optical/electronic viewfinder systems?

2) And what are their findings and thoughts on such a system?

3) Do they fully realize the significance of lowering the all up weight of a camera body plus battery, and 3 to 5 lens kit?

Regards

Johnny

I would like to go there for the social gathering and to see what Leica are up to. My biggest concern is actually if there is a sort of cafe on the Leica booth with good espresso.

I too would like to visit there for a social gathering. I'm willing to bring my Nespresso machine too! :)

The Leica M Viewfinder/Rangefinder design is more than 50 years old...............Is the existing viewfinder/rangefinder all we are ever going to get from Leica? With new design techniques and materials unavailable 50 years ago, why hasn't Leica addressed some of the limitations of the existing finder?

(With all due respect to Leica's existing design)

Me too, but I won't be carrying my Nespresso machine.........although maybe a few capsules would come in handy:).

Is Leica honest enough to admit there has been a significant skin peeling problem with the X1 and if so can they advise the cause and the remedy?

Can Leica give an assurance that future new cameras will not have skin peeling problems?

If they answer these questions, can they answer with something better than, "they would say that .. wouldn't they?"

Considering that there will be no M10, or for that matter a M9.2, my questions are:

• Will there be a 21mm Elmar?

• Will there be a new 50mm Summicron, as resistant to flare and other stray light shenanigans as the Summilux ASPH?

• I have called for an "extension battery housing" (though preferably without any broomstick handgrip, please). At least one other person in the known universe seems to see the need. Does Leica?

• When will lens production catch up with lens design -- at least so that it is visible on the horizon?

My other questions are for the 2012 Photokina ...

My question relates to the R 10 as a frustrated R user who invested so much in that line.

Why, as Novoflex has done, don't you enter into some sort of agreement to have the appropriate Leica/Eos adapters built with the same standards that were used for the Leica 4/3 adapter. I find Novoflex products rather frail in comparing them to their Leica's equivalent.

Even though auto-focusing is quite nice to have (for bird watching especially) I have used the manual focusing technique for so many years that I still depend on it with the 4/3 system.

4/3 camera have been very disappointing in terms of definition and noise past 400 ISO making the use of flash almost compulsory, but unfortunately accompanied by flash flaws.

My only requirement would be to be able to focus at full aperture like in the good old days.

I should add that my main interest in using digital imaging is to be able to see what I have done, and often missed, right on the spot, so that I can give it another try if needed.

If the alleged new EVIL comes about, my only requirements would be Live view and no noise!

Can we have an assurance that Leica will continue to ignore demands for bloatware and feature-creep that would change the DNA of the M series such as autofocus, video mode, clip-on electronic viewfinders or a built-in handgrip.

Regards,

Bill

Hahaha ... what Bill has said.

I only wish Leica could take the X1 or Digilux concept one step further and build a X2 or Digilux 5 (please skip #4 ;) ) allowing the use of M and R lenses. Thank you. :)

Hang on ... what about a R2-D2 edition of M9? :p

Maybe rephrasing Bill's preferences there (with the same intent);)

Will future M cameras preserve the existing viewfinder/rangefinder and retain the minimal feature set design as well as the existing form factor?
