fabrispino Posted August 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I have a big trouble into my mind: I' ve found a Leica r9 with dmr like new!! But my question is : it's a good idea spend may be € 3500/4000 for leica r9+dmr when I use 19,35,50,90,100 apo and 180 apo (19/2,8 without lens or body modification!) on canon ds markII and eos V markII? I look at this body because I'd like somethimes take photo using film and when I want to change in a digital format using only brand Leica I put the dmr and all it's ok. Money may be no problem because I send back my Canon Ds and 70-200/2,8 L USM. Problem is Leica will give us a new DSLR mounts for R- lens? If anybody want speeking about send me a post. jruffolo Posted August 9, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 9, 2010 Hello fabrispino, welcome! I have been a very happy user of an R8+DMR for the last three years now; and can whole-heatedly recommend it. I do mainly architectural/product photography and as such the high ISO performance is not the biggest issue to me, which is not so good on the DMR to say the least. If you have the 5dmkII though and your lenses work on it, use that for your high ISO needs and the DMR for everything else! I find the quality of the files to be superb- brilliant color, excellent sharpness, and very good dynamic range resultant of the 16bit processing. One can easily be put down by the fact that the DMR is "only" 10mp, but I have very rarely if ever felt the need for more practical resolution for my needs. Attached is an example from the DMR with the 19 Elmarit, which is the lens I find I use the most on the camera. Also below are some links to other photos I posted a while ago in the photo forums; hope you find them useful. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/people/99744-self-portrait.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/architecture/99745-bmw-museum.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/architecture/98379-flurkapelle-b-digheim.html As for the price; it seems a bit high to me, but then again I have not really looked at DMR prices lately. If you have a good investment in R glass though as you seem to have, It is definately a worthy investment, to get the most out of your lenses. Regards, John Welcome, dear visitor! rsh Posted August 9, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 9, 2010 The price you have found for a like new R9 plus DMR is quite respectable but only you can decide if it is the right move. I paid $3,800.00 for a new DMR only a few months ago because I wanted a backup to the one I already owned and because I like the quality of the photos. I have listened to and read that there may be and Full Frame EVIL camera introduced at Photokina, so that may make you hesitant, and that is understandable. There is of course no guarantee that it will be introduced. If it is, I, nor anyone has any idea of price. 3,500 - 4,500 Euro is a lot top spend in this economy on a camera with a digital back that is no longer produced, but I can tell you this, the images you will get from the DMR are second to none. In that respect you will not lose.
Overgaard Posted August 9, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 9, 2010 The DMR is a very different feeling than the Canon, just looking through the bright clear viewfinder is almost worth the price. The files are great looking, mostly straight out of the camera. When I look at Johns pictures I think "this one really pro camera" (and photographer, John!). The results you can get are out of this world. The price seem in the high end, but if it is really mint and there is some batteries and extra along with it, it's ok. In decisions like these, I trust my hearth. If it feels right and tempting, go for it. Some things must be experienced while they are still happening. In 10 years it's a collectors item, right now it's tool. And as for the new EVIL camera. Nobody knows price, quality or delivery time. Thought if announced, I would guess Leica has learned that they must deliver at once.
chesterview Posted August 10, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 10, 2010 Maybe the answer is to look at this site below where you could buy a DMR and R8 for Euro 2,500 http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photography/Digital-cameras/Digital-SLR/auction-308365280.htm Viel Glueck mit dieser Idee!!!! topoxforddoc Posted August 10, 2010 Share #7 Posted August 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just love my DMRs. I've had 3 (one was stolen). I won't part with mine at all. Printing at A2 (full frame) or A3 (crop) is no problem at all with the DMR. If you can accept the low ISOs, then I wouldn't hesitate. remember, all your glass still works. If and when your DMR is no more, you can still use it on the next generation of Canons/Nikons etc. If you don't like the DMR, then you won't lose any money on it, as they're still in demand. Good luck,
jaapv Posted August 11, 2010 Share #8 Posted August 11, 2010 I would not be without my DMR. It is the perfect DSLR solution if you can live without extreme high ISO. Despite its age, its relatively low pixel count (but ample) and ISO limitation, it easily holds its own with any camer in the 135 class. The colors are far better than any I have found in other DSLRs.

R9user Posted September 25, 2010 Share #13 Posted September 25, 2010 My R9/DMR was stolen and the moment I had the chance I replaced them. Wonderful camera, great quality shots. The colour I have to still see beaten. In short I would. On the R-solution - who knows we are all hoping in the dark.....
