I am happy only with the Sandhill Crane shot as they appear here, the other two I have already improved through post processing but the time is past to replace in that post. I take this to be an overall selection process and, once complete, it is anticipated that there will be guidelines for final dimensions, ppi, and type of file, in which case of course I'll scan the neg(s) in my Minolta DiMage 5400 with the appropriate settings for the aforementioned specs and apply the final post processing settings I've decided upon. As for the rest, those little thingies are called "grain" and is inherent in film, the other is called "bokeh," where it isn't in focus. The rest is artistic license--mine. (Actually, those drugstore scans are perfectly adequate for low-res internet display.) Those qualities are part and parcel of the Leica mystique and I am one of the few left who are shooting film with the classic Leicas and Leica lenses (which are renowned for the most part for the very qualities you--ah--critiqued). Bill and I are the arbiters of this selection, according to the guidelines for this thread: what I decide, I submit. These three photos are kind of a "set," and I'm actually considering using the same hues in each to make them similar. I will spend my time on the final versions after I return from two weeks shooting the Canadian Rockies, Vancouver and Whistler. Right now my thoughts are on packing. Cheers. Thanks for the suggestions, guys, and here's an improved Tamarin, Andy, if you can replace the previous one that would be great. I minimized the noise/grain in the background and sharpened up the face. I can't do too much more with this "drug store scan" as you've both noted. I planned to spend the time to do the miracle stuff after I unpacked my scanner, etc. [every time I leave this time of year I have to prepare for hurricane while I'm gone, pack up and protect everything valuable] (although in this case it was a "portrait" shot and only the eyes are in focus)(if you believe that and not that my IIIf had a case of pre-focus [since corrected by DAG I hope] the malt's on me) I played around with the manatee shot but I'm going around in circles right now and need to work with layers to bring it in after my Minolta 5400 scan after I get back, and approved before publication. And while we're critiquing this set, on the sandhill cranes I waited a long time for the one in the background to turn around so I could get its face but it never happened, so I have mixed thoughts about that composition afatg. Now the lens was OEM'd by Canon to Panasonic if i remember well so i'm not sure if it is a real Leica lens. In fact i'm almost sure of the contrary. The book will be 8x10 or 11x14 -- we have a vote coming. If your pix are portrait orientation, they'll be smaller than that so size will be less of an issue. What is this camera, 3.5 mp?
