Too late for me, since the M9 files where significantly better with LR3, I had transferred my library to LR3 and my 30 days trial ran out so I had to buy the upgrade a few weeks ago.

Not a big deal, but I would have expected Leica to be bit more pro-active with this.

go to your :https://owners.leica-camera.com and follow the instruction and you will get LR3 version (just as long as you have not use it before for LR2 download)

But, I see only 2.6.1, apparently since I received and registered my M9 about a month ago and already downloaded LR 2.6.1.

So, those of us who have already downloaded LR 2 prior to today are not entitled to LR 3?

No, the above post isn't quite accurate. Apparently it's not when one registered but whether one has downloaded a previous version to LR 3.

Here is my story from just now:

I had registered my M9 shortly after I received it in October (and have been waiting to hear a crack). I did not download a LR nor use my TAN.

Just now I went to the owners area, logged in, > Benefits and requested LR. I was offerred LR 3 and invited to enter my serial # and TAN. The LR 3 download is proceeding and I just received an activating license number via email.

Unless there is a subsequent post by me to the contrary, you can assume I've been able to activate the Leica provided LR 3.

 I started this thread based on the rumor of a seemingly imminent firmware update to 1.134....nothing to do with LR3. And, I still don't see the update on the Leica site. So much for the rumor site, which seems to be living up to the expectations of many.

Sorry, that's what I meant by "registered".

If you already registered your TAN and claimed 2.6, you in essence purchased it and have to pay if you want to upgrade to 3.0..

If on the other had you waited to register the software purchase until today then you get 3.0

Yes, I wrote to Leica technical support, and they mentioned that they are resolving an error in the firmware. I hope this might ally any concerns about it being real. Charles

Dear Mr. Kalnins.

Thank you very much for your inquiry at Leica CS-Support.

Unfortunately we had to stop for the last planned release of the new firmware, because our technicians have noticed a grave mistake.

Please look in the next few days on our website www.leica-camera.com according to the new firmware, it should appear in the upcoming days, really!

Thank you for your understanding.

Mit freundlichen Gruessen / kind regards / Cordialement,

Oliver Vogler

Jeff, that's why they call them rumors :D:D

Ya think? But, rumors eventually turn out to be right or wrong...good sources or bad.

Based on above post, which I just saw, seems they were 'almost' right.

Who is talking about LR3?

The post I quoted is referring to new firmware 1.134 promised several month ago from Solms!!!

Hello all,

As I await the new firmware, I am curious if anyone knows whether the M9 hardware/software has been altered to prevent 'bricking" the camera during upgrades. As I remember with the M8, there was a thread some time ago where it was claimed that Leica had not allowed a way to reboot the camera when the firmware was corrupted. I may be using the wrong terms to describe this, but does anyone know?

Thanks

Donald

I know that installing firmware is sufficiently mysterious that it scares quite a few people, but if you follow the instructions -- battery fully charged, wait for a count of 3 or 5 seconds after the camera requests that you confirm you want to install firmware before pressing "set" seem to be the only possibly dangerous points -- things just work. I have followed firmware posts on this forum since early M8 days, and don't recall anyone getting into trouble that a second try to install didn't fix. The most common obstacle that people encounter is not getting the mxxx.upd file correctly extracted from the compressed .zip format that it comes in when downloaded, and perhaps not putting it in the root directory of the SDHC card. After that, installation is nearly automatic.

I am pretty sure that a technician using the USB cable can un-brick an M8 or M9, perform tests or install earlier firmware. After all, the firmware development group has to do this sort of thing. But those tricks or any "Easter eggs" (special combinations of unlikely button presses that expose inside information) have not surfaced on this forum. Yet.

This has to be kept secret in the forum. If Seal (yes, the singer with a faible for Leica cameras) presses the release of your crippled camera while singing the chorus of the Hebrew Slaves in Nabucco, the camera firmware is reset and you even are enabled to download LR 4.0 in two years time.

Sorry, I couldn't resist...

Andreas
