I Couldn't Resist

I had decided not to get the X1 after reading comments about peeling skin and poor build quality. Then my dealer called a week ago to tell me he received three of them--two for special orders and one for store stock. So I stopped in to have a look, tried it out, thought about it overnight and bought it the next day. There are a few things I don't like--such as the ease with which the top dials turn, the 30 cm minimum focus distance for macro shooting and the relatively slow AF function. I would also like to be able to shoot DNG only, without the jpegs. But overall, I really like the camera so far. Image quality is outstanding for a small, lightweight camera--and that's the main consideration for me. One pleasant discovery was that the 24mm finder for my D-Lux 4 matches up quite nicely with the image area of the X1, although I have to watch for parallax error when shooting close range. Clearly, this will be my "go everywhere" camera for quite some time.

Brent, no doubt the X1 has it's idiosyncrasies, but it's ease of use and image quality makes it a pleasure to use under most, perhaps not all, conditions. I'd be surprised if you don't make it shine even more ;)

Same here. But until today I still do not understand the logic behind this. Leica must have a good reason to do so. Anyone got a good explanation?

I don't understand this, I thought the 24mm lens on the X1 = full-frame 35mm and I thought the 24mm on the D-Lux 4 was 24mm equivalent?
