Sailronin Posted June 27, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well my M8 has been in New Jersey for a week and a half....missing my baby. I had a good day shooting with my Nikon in the swamp, got some good shots of a baby (about 4 foot) alligator. (They're in the Wildlife section of the smugmug shot below but not Leica so won't post here) The Leica is just so much easier to carry around. Three weeks to go and counting down. Advertisement Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Hi Sailronin, Take a look here missing my M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
efix Posted June 27, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 27, 2010 My condolences! ;-) When I had no lens for my M8 for a week or so, it was terrible ... And now I'm having the prospect of being without a lens again (have to send it in for calibration), and I can't afford a second lens right now ... Bluefairy Posted June 27, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 27, 2010 i know how it is ...mine has been gone for 6 weeks, back to Solms to fix the sensor and the local dealer said it will take another 8 weeks at least...
wilfredo Posted June 28, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 28, 2010 Stay on top of these repairs, call, ask questions. You won't be ignored.

Sailronin Posted June 30, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted June 30, 2010 I was thinking about buying a second M8 for backup but am concerned as most are now out of the warranty period and repairs are not cheap. I guess a "pre owned" 8.2 could be an option but it's still a lot of money. I found a "classic" M6 and it's lovely to work with but realized I'm using the Nikon while the M8 is on vacation. Decisions, decisions.....
Bluefairy Posted June 30, 2010 Share #7 Posted June 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) i was comtemplating a 2nd M8 too since the prices seems to be coming down....but guess it would make more economical sense to spend the money on lens or towards a M9 ....so i remain waiting .... Doc Henry Posted June 30, 2010 Share #8 Posted June 30, 2010 Well my M8 has been in New Jersey for a week and a half....missing my baby. (They're in the Wildlife section of the smugmug shot below but not Leica so won't post here) The Leica is just so much easier to carry around. Three weeks to go and counting down. Dave Dave, The solution to remain in digital is to have 2 M (two M8 or 1 M8 + 1 M9 my case). As when one is under repair or awaiting delivery (I was 2 M8 and i sold one when I received the M9) ...but i agree it is a costly solution Dave have good patience and good luck ... jaapv Posted June 30, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 30, 2010 Or a Digilux2 as backup - there is a Pana one in the B&S right now.
Sailronin Posted June 30, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted June 30, 2010 That's funny Jaap. The Panasonic DMC-L1 with the f2.8 Vario Elmar Leica lens is what got me interested in buying the M8! I sold it after the M8 arrived, I guess that would be coming full circle.
steamboat Posted July 4, 2010 Share #11 Posted July 4, 2010 Good thread as my M8.2 is en route back from New Jersey. It started shooting blank DNGs. The jpegs shot along side were mostly okay. But it was sporadic so I didn't loose "too many" pictures. But I lost faith in the camera and sent it in pronto. I got a call last week from NJ that the camera was done. They've replaced the CCD sensor, adjusted the focus and CLA the camera. On warranty. (Whew). I didn't send them any purchase info, but am assuming that all M8.2s are under warranty since they came out in October 2008 (or so--I got mine in November). So I've been carrying a Canon 7D with 24mm f1.4 with me everywhere instead of M8. It's been okay but not the same. Oh, a footnote on M8.2. It had 23,000+ exposures. In a couple of under-exposed night shots I had noticed the dreaded vertical line so it may be a good thing that this happened and the CCD is now replaced. I should have it Tuesday. Bluefairy Posted July 5, 2010 Share #12 Posted July 5, 2010 and i just got my M8 back this afternoon can't wait to try out and make sure they fixed the sensor. They took about 7 weeks (instead of the dreaded 14 weeks, initially indicated!) to fix it in Solms and sent back here. Can't wait to go out and take some photos with it. Hope they fix the vertical line this time.
blimey Posted July 9, 2010 Share #13 Posted July 9, 2010 i have lots of dust under my LCD screen.. i didnt bother sending it in. i was told 12 weeks to remove the dust. i rather shoot and eventually send it for a CLA in years to come. so OP, not to disappoint you, the estimate you have seems too good to be true. but good luck. Sailronin Posted July 10, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted July 10, 2010 Another week past and my baby is still in NJ. Now off to San Diego and still with out the M8 which I purchased as a travel camera! Oh well....got a call on Monday, they couldn't duplicate the centerfold problem and wanted more examples (had sent one hard copy photo). Really had to search for examples as the photos were no good (duh...that's why the camera went for repair) and I'd deleted most of them. Was able to find a couple and email them to the service department but now quiet again. Good thing the Nikon is built like a tank and keeps shooting. Sailronin Posted July 19, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted July 19, 2010 My package from New Jersey was on my desk this morning at work. My M8 has returned, outputs and meter adjusted. This evening I'll take her out and see if the centerfold is gone. Hopefully all is well and the world is back in balance. Dave
trs Posted July 19, 2010 Share #16 Posted July 19, 2010 Not sure it is happening to you all. But, when I got mine back from NJ, it created new folder with 999 even though I had another folder with 111 series. I wonder that error would have been if I had shot over 1K frames before I realized.
