What can be better on this first day than to have grandchildren present their best wishes for the new year (even if it is still with some help of their dad).

Some great shots above. This was a great idea Mrs Andy.

Yesterday afternoon it was looking very promising. I figured all I had to do was hang around the flat at the same time and grab another copy of the moon rising today.....

Then we woke up this morning to the worst downpour we've ever seen here so figured a snap in the apartment block would have to do.........

Luckily, after a long French lunch, the weather changed and allowed me to stroll down the forest track.

Happy New Year all

Michael

Well, events conspired against me today, could not get out on the bike as planned, so this V-Lux 1 "test shot" (how many times have we seen that old excuse for a clunker-post?) will have to be my contribution. :o

Happy New Year,

Pete.

Thoughts on my Jan 1st, 2007 challenge

After a week of seemingly constant family house parties, on Jan 1st our home was suddenly strangely silent. Gone were my little models (the demolition gang) and we were left with the aftermath. What to photograph?

I wished to avoid subjects which I could submit at any time during the year. Then my eye was attracted to an historic nativity scene which is based on Neapolitan figures characterising local Italian people. We bought our little collection while living in Naples twenty five years ago. The Neapolitans are very fond of their ‘presepi’ and wonderful scale models of Christian characters and country people are displayed in shops before Christmas and in museums throughout the year. Our small collection is quite modest but it is a nostalgic reminder of yesteryear.

The lighting this morning was diffused daylight indoors when I started to photograph a small detail with my Leica Digilux 2. I attached the Elpro-D to enable closer focusing and shot raw, ISO 100, aperture priority (F/8) exposures around 1/5 second, used a Benbo Trekker tripod for stability and a Digilux cable release.

My chosen image from a sequence of shots concentrates on a young shepherd boy with a baby lamb across his back and shoulders. To my mind this figure epitomises the youth and vitality of a new year. After some experimenting I also included a hand on a staff (Joseph’s) and a more gentle hand (Mary’s) to symbolise parental or family help to the young in the world. I hope you are equally moved by the symbolism.

A Happy New Year to Mrs Barton and all Leica Forum Members.

David

I'm still in my pajamas and it's 1:25 PM in Southern California. Hopefully I'll get out today and shoot something (with the camera). The pictures posted here are a lot of fun!

Bernardo, that shot is really lovely, nice picture to set the tone for the New Year, new life, new beginning.

Happy New Year,

Woke up, turned to my right and looked out the window. Grabbed an extra layer and pulled on my socks......grabbed the D2. Trout Lake, NorthCentral Minnesota. Rain had melted the snow on the lake and then a cold front came through and solidified everything. Nice shots everybody.....Happy New Years.......Mine started out beautifully......Al

Well, here goes.

I rose (reasonably) early, and this was one of the first shots I took. It's my "meditation table", that sits in the lounge window,

After all the ghastly weather over the last couple of days, today dawned bright and clear. The sun was streaming in behind my bonsai, and just seemed too good to miss.

This shot also amuses me because it is a real combination of the old and new; it was taken on my RD-1 (with the s upgrade) and the vintage 35mm 3.5 Elmar that normally lives on my IIIc (although a Summitar is on the way :D). Nothing I Took later in the day compared to this.

Regards,

Bill

Andy, Many thanks to the Mrs. for the splendid idea. It has been raining most of the day here in NY so here is one out the window of my apartment. Dusk now and fog along with the rain. DMR + 180/2.8
