Leica X1 - camera review - Introduction - Lenstip.com.

Excerpts from the review:

A person owning Nikon D300/D300s with Nikkor 2.8/24 mounted on it won’t get pictures crispier than an owner of Leica X1. Quite on the opposite, it’s the compact X1 that will win the duel.

We can once again relate to a set of D300/D300s plus Nikkor 2.8/24. And again, Leica will win this duel, as Nikkor showed chromatic aberration on the levels 0.10-0.18%.

within the measuring errors, which in this case are around 0.3-0.6 lpmm, Leica X1 gives the same results as Nikon D300. This is enough of a recommendation.

As for a compact camera the results are fantastic. From ISO 200 up images from Leica look noticeably better than from E-P1 and with increasing ISO the difference gets larger and larger.

Does it remind you of anything? It does for us. D300s obtained identical values for every component. We evaluated its behavior as very good there. Here we’re dealing with a compact camera, so our evaluation needs to be just as high.

The clippings confirm what the graph showed. It’s hard to say about any difference in image quality between the D300s and Leica X1 and this seems to be the biggest recommendation for Leica. Compact with image quality of a great DSLR – what more do you need?

Again we can say nothing but praise about Leica. Compact with tonal range of almost 7 EV isn’t any worse than DSLRs. You’d want to say – finally!

Lots of people praise Nikons D300, D300s or D90 for their image quality, noise and tonal range, and Leica X1 isn’t short of them in any of these, still being a compact camera. It deserves nothing less than a 6.
