beramos Posted December 27, 2006 Share #22  Posted December 27, 2006 ¡Qué sorpresa tan estupenda! You'll put it to good use. I wouldn't call it 'caving in', more getting past all the negative posts and embracing all the things the M8 does well. Â I'm curious why Cal's got a camera directly from Germany rather than through NJ? Aren't they still an authorized dealer? Â Take care, Â Robbe Gibson

wilfredo Posted December 28, 2006 Author Share #28  Posted December 28, 2006 Here's something reflecting some of the problems already discussed on the Forum. I am wondering if in future firmware upgrades these spots on open spaces will go away???  Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography Welcome, dear visitor! robsteve Posted December 28, 2006 Share #29 Â Posted December 28, 2006 Wilfredo: Â Congratulations on your new camera. Your spots look like dust or dirt on the sensor. Have you tried using a rocket blower bulb on it to dislodge some of the dust?
marknorton Posted December 28, 2006 Share #30 Â Posted December 28, 2006 Agreed, it looks like your sensor needs cleaning, try a blower (not brush) first...
wilfredo Posted December 28, 2006 Author Share #31  Posted December 28, 2006 Here's one more. wilfredo Posted December 28, 2006 Author Share #32  Posted December 28, 2006 I'll give the blower a try. Here's something that baffles me. The camera was set on A mode. It is supposed to be waves.  Wilfredo+ Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! marknorton Posted December 28, 2006 Share #33 Â Posted December 28, 2006 Yes, I get that, occasionally the shot is completely over-exposed...
wilfredo Posted December 28, 2006 Author Share #34  Posted December 28, 2006 Robert and Mark,  I followed the instructions for cleaning the sensor and it worked! First time I do this on any camera. Here's another shot of the wall at the entrance to my home, and the spots are gone. Thank You!  Robbe,  It could very well be Cal's got the camera from N.J., all they said was that it had arrived last week. I made the assumption it came from Germany but that was just conjecture on my part.  Peter and Bernardo,  This Leica will be known as Penelope :-)  Cheers, Wilfredo+ Benitez-Rivera Photography Welcome, dear visitor! caloso Posted December 28, 2006 Share #35 Â Posted December 28, 2006 I just recieved my epson 3 weeks ago and after one week I forgot how much I missed using my m6 (several years). In fact I posted earlier that that I would wait for the m9. Unfortunatly for my bank account I was in San Francisco today and much to my surprise Gassers had a black m8. I bought it took it home charged it and put the nocti on. The Epson had been spot on for all my lenses but had some trouble focusing at f1.0. I don't like the sound of the shutter but the restifeels great.

earleygallery Posted December 28, 2006 Share #38 Â Posted December 28, 2006 Wilfredo, congratulations on the new camera. It's good to see more people accepting the camera now that the initial problems have been addressed/understood. Â I too have read your posts particularly regarding the price of the M8 and your disappointment with the 'depreciation' of your M7 (have you sold your M7?). Â I think your M8 has definately come from Germany even if it took a detour en route! It seems that chrome M8's are becoming available from stock but the black ones are still being supplied to fulfil back orders. Â I rather like the chrome version, if only because it looks more retro and the average bod in the street will think its just some old camera from the 50's, less of an attention grabber. Â Of course the M8 will also depreciate, very little initially whilst its still a current model, but then rather significantly when its successor arrives (which appears to be the pattern for digital cameras). However I personally have never considered resale value when buying a camera, and rarely sell them anyway, they just become part of the collection! Â It would be interesting to hear in a while if you find the digital M8 affects your style of photography compared to using your M7.
larry Posted December 28, 2006 Share #39 Â Posted December 28, 2006 Wilfredo, Â Now we have twin cameras -- I picked up mine yesterday. A chrome was available, so I took it. Although I ordered a black one, I actually find the chrome to be more attractive. The sensor in my camera was perfectly clean and everything else seems to work perfectly. My only complaint is that the shutter button seems a bit rough compared with the M7. I'm hoping this will smooth out with some use. Â Larry
