I just got an m3 and tried attaching my new 50mm lux. To my dismay I am unable to attach the lens onto the camera for some reason. I have attached the lens on my m-e and its smooth as, i.e. it's just an easy turn and I can hear it click into place, but having tried multiple times now with the m3 I am unable to hear it click into place. It just seems so tight and I'm not sure why coz I tried attaching my 35mm and it seems to go on easy.

Any thoughts?

According to one of the service engineers I spoke to at Leica, some M3s have a bit of a tight bayonet ring. To some extend this can be adjusted.

Regards

Christoph

Just got an M3 a couple of weeks ago. Should pick up a 50mm 2.8 Elmar later in the year or a C sonar.

If you go for the Sonnar, you should play with it on a digital M to see how much you need to adjust for the focus shift. It will be very frustrating trying to find the shift on your M3 (several roles of film). I'd also advise you to buy it optimized for f/2.8 -- there, the shift happens at your wider apertures and is easily compensated by leaning in a little. Above 2.8, the shift in the other direction is quickly covered by the depth of field.

The C Sonner is a wonderful lens, but definitely has a learning curve.

I love this thing, my first M. Had it a year, bought from the original owner, sold the old collapsible summicron that was attached (too heavily weathered for my tastes), had it cla'd, recovered & put this Zeiss on it (no doubt Leica lenses are all they say but I had history with Zeiss & the commensurate budget).

Smooth as silk & my family can figure out what to do with it when they prize it out of my cold dead hands. Hopefully a long time from now.

Gotta love it!

I know what you mean about that lens...now I am using fast Voigtlander lenses and some older Classic Leica lenses.

After selling my much loved M5 a couple of years ago I was lured back to Leica, except this time I have gone for a very early model well used M3 and now I am looking forward to getting some lenses to rekindle that unique Leica love.

I'm looking forward to sharing experiences with other Leica and M3 users once again.

I like this combo quite a bit...M3 and rough exterior but oh-so-clean glass, "sleeper" 90 Elmarit...

I'm new to the forum, photography and the Leica world. I thought that a good place to start with photography would be my dad's M3 with a 50 Summiliux, 50 Summicron (haven't used it yet) 35 Summarit and original light meter. I've just been a on a trip for a week and went through 5 film rolls. It sure was fun but I'm not sure if any of the pictures are any good.

I really like mechanical engineering and the brick like feeling of the M3 fits perfectly.

Next on my to do list is to learn how to develop film.
