pippy Posted May 9, 2023 Share #19701 Posted May 9, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Well played, Ivan, and you are right on the button! This particular car was (pre-covid) a regular - and always highly impressive - entrant for the annual Crystal Palace Sprint races which is fitting as the Ensign LNF3 cars have a strong association with the venue. stuny Posted May 10, 2023 Share #19703 Posted May 10, 2023 Either a Delahaye or a Talbot Lago, but I have no more idea. I can't wait to see the rest of the car. At Pebble?

Ivan Goriup Posted May 10, 2023 Share #19706 Posted May 10, 2023 (edited) Not a Bugatti, although it looks an awful lot like a 57S Antlantic Coupe, only 4 of which were ever made. Stuart did guess the correct maker - it is a Talbot-Lago - but in this case, naming the exact model is important because, as with Bugatti, only a quite limited number of this very special model were ever produced. NigelG Posted May 10, 2023 Share #19707 Posted May 10, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is this the “barn find” Pourtout T150C SS “teardrop” now restored? I haven’t seen it but remember the unrestored photos when it was a dull grey-blue. It’s got very different (and slightly crude IMHO) open mesh venting rather than the traditional bonnet flank louvres of the other 2 (are there more?) - was this a racing modification? wlaidlaw Posted May 10, 2023 Share #19708 Posted May 10, 2023 (edited) French coachbuilders were rather fond of mesh venting. Our Gangloff bodied 57SC Coupé had very similar mesh venting on the bonnet sides. I cannot put my finger on the folder with photos of it at present. Maybe that was to let the hot air out of the supercharger, as from its indifferent performance, it wasn't going into the engine. Ivan Goriup Posted May 11, 2023 Share #19709 Posted May 11, 2023 NidelG posted the correct answer, however I'm not positively sure it's the actual barnfind ( from the early 2000s ) or another car. I do know that this was the first Concours d'Elegance appearance of this car after a 'very sympathetic & complete restopration' in 2010. Lago produced 10 - 12 'goute d'eau' (Teardrop) coupes, the definitive number is not exactly known, all of which were bodied by Fagoni et Falaschi. An additional four Aerocoupes were commissioned at the end of the series, intended for racing / motorsports, designed by Georges Paulin and bodied by Carrosserie Marcel Portout. Thanks for participating, you're up next, Nigel. All Images - M240-P / 35mm Summilux FLE JZG Welcome, dear visitor! FYI I based my identification of the coachbuilder as Portout based on the mesh vents. I have never seen either IRL or in photos an F&F bodied car that didn't have a traditionally louvred bonnet design - and given the "aesthetic" obsession of those designers I'm not sure they would have sanctioned the use of the mesh inserts (which aren't even body-coloured 😲) - they are a bit of a "sore thumb" for me... Ivan Goriup Posted May 12, 2023 Share #19714 Posted May 12, 2023 Pardon the non-sequitur, but Niugel's response stirred some memories and I set about to run it all down. I remembered seeing a 'barnfind' Talbot-Lago coupe being auctioned off at Laguna Seca a few years back, in 2008 actually, a few years later than when I thought it was for sale. I can now confirm that the car posted as the puzzle car above was indeed the barnfind T150 SS Nigel was referring to. It's first 'restored' appearance was at the Pebble Beach Concours was in 2014 where I saw & photographed the car. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! pippy Posted May 14, 2023 Share #19720 Posted May 14, 2023 I haven't a clue about the significance nor where it might be (and even "A US Muscle-Car?" would be a guess) but it looks like it's part of a Static Display (Film Studio?) and the image might even be rotated 90 degrees to the right. Looking forward to this one! Philip.
