pippy Posted May 9, 2023 Share #19686  Posted May 9, 2023 (edited) Wow! Hardly the wrap of choice for those of a 'Shy and Retiring' disposition... The first thing which came to my mind was the opening verse from Alice Cooper's song "Elected"; "I'm your top prime cut of meat, I'm your choice, I wanna be elected, I'm your yankee doodle dandy in a gold Rolls Royce, I wanna be elected!..." Anyhow; apologies for the delay in transmission but we can now return you to the scheduled programme. This one may or may not be easy. If the latter proves to be the case then I will supply such clues as I can unearth! I'll start with this crop which does show a couple of features that suggest the type of car and formula for which it was created; Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted May 9, 2023 Share #19689  Posted May 9, 2023 Brabham BT38C or maybe a GRD?  On the gilded lily car, I presume the owner likes being pulled over by the police every five minutes to search for drugs etc. In the words of Del-Boy:  "What a plonker". Wilson

You are very much on the right track (Ho!Ho!), Wilson, but it is neither a Brabham nor a GRD. This manufacturer primarily constructed their F3 cars in 1971 and 1972 although the first chassis was tested in '70 and "new" cars did appear as late as 1974. Following on from a certain amount of success in F3 the man behind the marque decided to go into F1 and the team stayed in that category for some ten seasons. As these cars are fairly scarce and the car pictured here was photographed a couple of years ago - so might well be slightly different from its 'period' condition - I don't really require a full model-description; the name of the manufacturer will suffice! wlaidlaw Posted May 9, 2023 Share #19697  Posted May 9, 2023 My suspicion from the carburation is that the car might be a Formula Atlantic not an F3 car. As to make and model, maybe a March 722. Wilson
pippy Posted May 9, 2023 Share #19698  Posted May 9, 2023 Another clue? The founder of the marque, a while after his F1 experience, also worked with Chip Ganassi in his highly succcessful Champ Car team. Following-on from that Mercedes-Benz urged him to form a team for the 2002 Indy Racing League season. One other pictorial clue? This rear wing (AFAIK) was unique to these particular cars (but I might well be incorrect!); Welcome, dear visitor! Shall I give a partial list of drivers who were employed by this marque during their F1 phase to show that this was hardly the result of a back-street-garage operation? Clay Regazzoni, Nelson Piquet, Jacky Ickx..... This car, as touched-upon earlier, pre-dates their F1 days but the marque retained their name during the most high-profile part of their existence.
