Well done Philip. A T87, the only car my grandfather always wanted but had no dealership around, so he bought the streamlined Adler Autobahn Cabriolet instead. The T87 was larger than the T97.

Elva BMW Mk.ViiS?

Wilson

Hello, Wilson.

You are most certainly thinking along the right lines and correct in terms of it being a joint UK / German pairing but not an Elva of any type. The chap responsible for this car is very well-known and his fame mainly came about through his talents as a designer.

Thanks for that, Ronald. I always thought of the Tatra Straemliners as the car of choice were Flash Gordon to arrive on Earth in the late '30s. I also really like the post war Tartaplans and even the 603 range. Crazy but Gorgeous (in an odd way!).

Could it be one of Derek Bennett's Chevron B6 cars. Andrew, my late rally co-driver for the last 10 years, used to race a B6 until he replaced it with a B8, also BMW engined. He had just bought a B16 from a Swedish Museum, with a very rare BMW M10 Apfelbeck radial valve engine for restoration, when he died very suddenly last year from a heart attack.

Hello, Wilson.

Thanks for the story. Sorry to hear about the sudden death of your co-driver. Very sad.

No; not a chevron either. The marque featured came in both open and closed forms and could be fitted with different powerplants. The one usually found (AFAIK) was from a slightly unconventional UK source - as in they were a massive organisation but not thought-of as being the obvious 'supplier' of race car engines - and the cars were raced in the under 1,000 cc class. This car, however, has a tuned BMW motor of twice that capacity.

Here's a more general shot of the amidships area;

Yes to the 'Costin - Something' question. Yes again to the Hillman Imp being the regular 'donor' as far as the engine goes. The name of person (and driver) who was responsible for showing the potential of the tuned Imp engine provides the 'Something' in the name. Yes again for the use of plywood in the central tub section. I don't know how many had the BMW unit fitted as info concerning these cars is rather scarce to say the least! Probably best to assume that the BMW - Alpina 2 litre unit as fitted here was unique.

As far as I've been able to ascertain; the team were successful in the UK in the mid-'60s which led to them having their entry accepted for the 24hr Le Mans race in one of the years which was won by the 'Blue Oval'. The car which competed that year was fitted with the Imp unit and had a DNF. The car pictured above was manufactured the following year - possibly with a view to a second attempt at the 24hr. with a much more powerful engine but, again, info is in the 'Rocking-horse Droppings' category as far as scarcity is concerned.

All told there were (apparently!) 12 examples of this specific model made - six each of open and closed bodywork - but there were other models made under the same marque.

Philip.

EDIT : I forgot to mention that Mr. 'Something' has co-authored a book documenting this part of his life and so I will be able to discover more about the rather interesting life which he lived - but I will have to buy it first.

Costin Nathan?

Correct, Charles!

This is the most informative site I've found on the web so far;

https://www.imps4ever.info/specials/costin.html

A simple google of the wiki entry has a bit more info and also a photo of this very car. The 1967 Le Mans entry was a DNF but there were many successes for the Costin Nathan partnership. Here's a link to the book mentioned in my 'PS' in my last post;

https://www.abebooks.co.uk/9780955393402/Adventurous-Life-Costin-Nathan-Story-Nathan-095539340X/plp

And lastly images of the whole thing plus the museum card;

Over to you, Charles, and a Very Happy New Year to everyone here! Thanks, all, for having made this difficult year more enjoyable in some small way!

Looks somehow familiar.

British?

Now I know, why it looked familiar https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/119687-name-this-car/?do=findComment&comment=4016247 😂

I got confused by the different look of the lamps and by the horn.

I'm sure the experts will get this rapidly, but here's a crop from my R7 with Summicron R 50mm with Tmax400 at 250 in Perceptol 1:2

The linked T87 is a later post war car. They changed front and interior design. Less Bauhaus inside and streamlined head beams.
