gmo Posted May 7, 2016 Share #8563  Posted May 7, 2016 No, there is a very (very) small indication in the picture as to country and use of the car  Gerd
wlaidlaw Posted May 7, 2016 Share #8564  Posted May 7, 2016 Gerd,  I thought that might be the tail of an Indian tiger on the front wing   I spent three weeks in a Hindustan Ambassador in 2005. Not a particularly pleasant experience. 50 years of development of the Morris Oxford Mk.III appeared to have accomplished very little and the substitution of a licence built Izuzu diesel cement mixer engine for the original BMC B series, had neither improved the performance nor the sound levels.  Wilson
gmo Posted May 8, 2016 Share #8565  Posted May 8, 2016 Wilson,  It's not a tiger but a panther or to be precise a "pantera" So a second clue?   Welcome, dear visitor! dkCambridgeshire Posted May 8, 2016 Share #8566  Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) USSR … thus Moskvitch … maybe a 407 taxi variant?  dunk Edited May 8, 2016 by dkCambridgeshire
gmo Posted May 8, 2016 Share #8567  Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Not USSR and not a taxi. But indeed European and quite something else than a taxi to be taken in for the ride  Gerd Edited May 8, 2016 by gmo
masjah Posted May 9, 2016 Share #8568 Â Posted May 9, 2016 I'm not going to pick up the thread if this is correct, because I haven't identified the vehicle, and I have no pictures of cars, but could it be a DAF?
dkCambridgeshire Posted May 9, 2016 Share #8569 Â Posted May 9, 2016 An airport limousine. Â dunk
wlaidlaw Posted May 9, 2016 Share #8570  Posted May 9, 2016 The sliding plastic front windows don't shout luxury car, unless they are a later addition. Other than sports cars with side screens, the only UK cars I can think of with sliding windows, are the early Minis, which this obviously is not.
luigi bertolotti Posted May 9, 2016 Share #8571 Â Posted May 9, 2016 I suppose than John's guess about DAF is in relation with the Netherlands' flags that seem to be sticked in numbers... but seems to me difficult it's a Dutch car....
gmo Posted May 9, 2016 Share #8572 Â Posted May 9, 2016 Not DAF nor an airport limo and the sliding windows are indeed a later addition as this actual vehicle is now used for historic rallying hence the stickers on the rear side window. Will post some additional picture tonight if still necessary. Â Gerd
pippy Posted May 9, 2016 Share #8573 Â Posted May 9, 2016 Is it some sort of Volvo Amazon variant? Â I know that they have been popular on events such as the Tulip Rally but the area below the rear window looks slightly off for the Volvo... Â Is the 'Pantera' mention significant? Â Pip. gmo Posted May 9, 2016 Share #8574 Â Posted May 9, 2016 Pip, Â No Volvo and the Pantera mention is significant for this car. Â Gerd

Gerd I wonder if it can be Inspector Clouseau car ...  (was black and tiny, iirc... but saw the Pink Panter series too many years ago...) wlaidlaw Posted May 9, 2016 Share #8576  Posted May 9, 2016 Whatever it is, a De Tomaso Pantera it is NOT.
wlaidlaw Posted May 9, 2016 Share #8577  Posted May 9, 2016 Luigi,  If it is the Pink Panther car, I think that was an Alfa Romeo 1900 Berlina.  Wilson
gmo Posted May 9, 2016 Share #8578  Posted May 9, 2016 Well it's not the Pink Panter car as far as I know but it is an Alfa Romeo 1900 Super TI as used by the Italian Highway State Police in their "Squadra Volante" where it got its nickname Pantera now living on in the Classic Car team of the Italian State Police "Le Pantere Storiche". This one is not fully original because the cars from the Squadra Volante had a windscreen in 2 pieces made from bullet proof glass and also this one is changed into a rally car.  Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted May 9, 2016 Share #8580  Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) There was an Alfa saloon in the Pink Panther but I suspect a later one than the 1900 - maybe a 2600 Berlina, The rounded shape of this one made it the earlier car to me. I will have to search my images for something new.  Wilson  PS Only the Italian police would have Borrani alloy rim spoked wheels on their cars Edited May 9, 2016 by wlaidlaw
