Having driven a number of Alfa's I knew that only an Italian car can produce this amount of corrosion:) And from the moment you showed the second picture the distinctive hood made it for me. Anyhow here is another one:

Steve, the 6C/34 did have the twin filler caps so maybe you're correct. I can't find any pictures of the 6C with a side spare tire fitted, which certainly doesn't preclude it ever having one. I did find one of a 4CTR/1100, however. Maserati, like most racing firms of the time, probably had endless variations of a theme.

Steve is correct. Maserati 6C-34. From what I puzzled on the net (cochesmiticos.com) a special two seater version that Varzi would have driven for the MM. Chassis No. 3026

Gerd,

There was a Bugatti 35 on the Colorado Grand Rally last week with things tied on all over it. Spare wheels, luggage, cameras etc, etc, so yes, any number of spare wheels could have gone on a 6C/34. I used to have a Bentley Speed Six with twin spare wheels on the back and they looked awful. I had the bracket remade for a single spare wheel.

John,

They were the friendliest and most welcoming bunch of people we have met on any rally going back over 20 years. There were a lot of lovely cars there and the State Troopers accompanying us on the rally (the rally heavily supports the widows and orphans fund and provides college scholarships for orphaned children) were great. They led us in a line all doing around 80 MPH on long straight deserted roads and then waived us past.

Sadly the maximum speed run is a thing of the past. The Aston worked perfectly even over Independence Pass at just over 12,000 feet. We changed down from 165 main jets in the Webers to 155 and carried 150’s with us but did not need them. This car was owned by Richard Williams the Aston restorer for some time after Dr. Zagato and was used as the development mule for the Sanction II DB4 GT Zagatos. It has a 4.2L 352 BHP engine, so is not short of go. However we will not discuss the fuel consumption. Just as well it has a 55 gallon (US) Le Mans fuel tank.

Wilson, gorgeous automobile. The first year of the Grand we had snow at Independence Pass! I'm really happy you enjoyed it. The Grand is something every auto enthusiast should endeavor to do because it is a wonderful experience driving and driving with all the other vintage cars around you. I do have a tape of the last one I went on and I play it every now and then just to hear the sound of the exhaust notes echoing off the canyon walls in certain places. There is a terrific camaraderie among these enthusiasts that is shared with all and a definite warm glow inside after the event is over.

Cheers, John

Just to keep the thread going, here is one for the time being until Steve finds one to post. Now this could be two cars. Coming at it from the side, until I spotted the wheels, I thought it was the other one to what it actually was. A very rare car! Don’t be fooled by the lady inside to give you the scale. She was a very petite person.
