well... could be one of the rare 275 GTB/C....

Luigi,

It is actually the predecessor series of cars, which used the full name 275 GTB/Competitione. This is the Ecurie Francochamps car 09027GT, driven by Dubois and Noblet in the 1966 Le Mans, where it came 2nd in Class (after another 275 GTB) and 10th overall. On the way back from Le Mans, the transporter being driven by a Ferrari driver, who had forgotten he was not at Le Mans in a GT car, rolled over with this car and a 330P in it, both being severely damaged.

Although they look almost identical to a road going 275 GTB, there is hardly a single part in common. It has a different dry sump block engine, pumped, cooled oil gearbox, paper thin all aluminium body, different suspension members, all polycarbonate windows (maybe one of the very early examples of the use of this material in a racing car) etc, etc. Due to a mistake in the homologation papers (declared as having 6 chokes rather than 6 carburettors), it only has 3 carburettors rather than the 6 of the road car, which restricts the power to around 290 BHP. This had the upside of making them much more reliable. The later 6 carburettor 330 GTC's had a major overheating problem when racing.

Here is the whole photograph, taken at Prescott Hill Climb on the Tour Britannia Rally in 2011. The car I was the co-driver in, the ex-Bonnier/DuboisTour de France 250GTO had broken down by this time, with a clutch release arm failure, so I was free to take photos.

Wilson, to me that´s a rare failure, had that once in >25 years. Glad you took nice snaps instead :)

Ronald,

There was a whole batch of 250GTO clutches made by Fichtel and Sachs with incorrectly heat treated release arms on the cover plate. They all failed, so F&S had to pick up the repair bills. Very irritating for us as we were lying in third position overall in the Tour Britannia when it finally failed (we had adjusted it four times first to take up the arms as they bent). We drove very slowly back to the rally base and the clutch died completely as we pulled into the garage at the Celtic Manor Hotel, so we only had to push it the last 50 metres.

Could you please tell me the brand by which the Chinese models known? I want to pick up a good number to decorate, but the cost of some models is nuts, and I would rather by more cameras (film) and lenses.

This guy called Vitaliy, who is the sales manager of Hartbei lenses in Kiev, also sells diecast models. I have seen one and they seem very nice. I bought a tilt shift Super Rotator ex-demo R mount lens and it was like new. There was a mistake on their website quoting the wrong filter size. I had bought a wrong size cheap metal lens hood, while waiting for the lens. They have therefore sent me free of charge, a genuine Hartblei metal lens hood - can't ask better service than that. Post from Ukraine is not fast, however.

Here is your next one. This is a very rare car and I would guess that you will either know it right away or not have a clue.

A fairly recent car of retro design. I initially thought a Morgan 8, but the rear wings don't stand off like that. The lack of anything unnecessary (to keep weight down) says competition about as loudly as the number.

Probably from the UK.

My first guess was Allard J2, but a special version. Another guess was Ed Dempsey Special. I´m pretty sure I´m wrong with both.

This could be a snap in the pits of Nürburgring, so I better check my lists ;)

Ronald,

You are thinking in the correct era and type of car. I think you were standing next to me when I took this shot - so how's your memory :):)

My memory is poor or I was looking in the other direction. I have to find another way. At least I know where it has been shot :D
