Advertisement Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Hi J_Thompson, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Andreas.Pichler Posted May 31, 2012 Share #3482 Posted May 31, 2012 Thanks for your answers so far. John (steed) comes closest, concerning the nationality. But its not an Alta. John Thompson, Stuart: 1935 is very good concerning the timeline. Cheers, Andreas Welcome, dear visitor! J_Thompson Posted May 31, 2012 Share #3484 Posted May 31, 2012 Maybe a MG R-Type?
Andreas.Pichler Posted May 31, 2012 Share #3485 Posted May 31, 2012 John, you are right! It's an R Type, produced in 1935 (10 cars), maybe the first british car with independent front and rear suspension. Unfortunately, this suspension was not as good as the engineers thought it would be, so the car was not very successful. John - its up to you! Cheers, Andreas Welcome, dear visitor! steed Posted May 31, 2012 Share #3486 Posted May 31, 2012 Great shots of a "wish I was there" moment. Here is my next clue, and I would rate this one as having a high degree of difficulty. It is not what you think it is....i.e., not a Thunderbird. Good luck John W Welcome, dear visitor! Andreas.Pichler Posted May 31, 2012 Share #3487 Posted May 31, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry John W (steed) if there has been a misunderstanding - "my" car was not an ERA, but an MG R Type, which was Johns (J_Thompsons) guess....so he is in charge right now, sorry... steed Posted May 31, 2012 Share #3488 Posted May 31, 2012 My mistake. I yield the floor.
Andreas.Pichler Posted May 31, 2012 Share #3489 Posted May 31, 2012 No problem...save your shot (which made me really curious!) for your next run! Cheers, Andreas
J_Thompson Posted June 1, 2012 Share #3490 Posted June 1, 2012 Andreas, why don't we save a little bandwidth here and just go with Steed's riddle car. It's fine with me and will save time, too. My guess? Looks like it was taken at the Petersen Museum but other than that, I haven't a clue. Maybe a one-off.
steed Posted June 1, 2012 Share #3491 Posted June 1, 2012 If we are working on my post, let me acknowledge good detective work. The clue depicts a one off which is at the Peterson. I can only say that I would not have gotten this one if I did not already know what it is. If we are not, I understand perfectly. It will keep... J_Thompson Posted June 1, 2012 Share #3492 Posted June 1, 2012 The clue depicts a one off which is at the Peterson. Is it fiberglass and American?
steed Posted June 1, 2012 Share #3493 Posted June 1, 2012 Neither fiberglass nor american
Rona!d Posted June 1, 2012 Share #3494 Posted June 1, 2012 Looks like 1953, looks like Ghia, looks like FIAT, looks like 8V Supersonic.
Rona!d Posted June 1, 2012 Share #3495 Posted June 1, 2012 (edited) If it doesn´t just "look like", it´s not really a one off car. Ghia made eigth Supersonics on FIAT 8V chassis plus three on XK120 and one on a DB2/4 chassis. All had slightly different looks (bumpers etc.). Obviously clients could deliver their own chassis. J_Thompson Posted June 1, 2012 Share #3496 Posted June 1, 2012 I must congratulate you for your keen eye for imagery, Ronald! I should have known this car. See posts #48 and #54 in this thread.
Rona!d Posted June 1, 2012 Share #3497 Posted June 1, 2012 Wow, seems we already had this car in 2010. I thought of that Ghia body aside with one or two "rocket exhaust looking rear light" alternative powered US concept cars which had much larger back lights and could be excluded in a way. Knew about different Supersonic chassis (XK120 + that sick later Cobra) but had to google that one Aston chassis. So let´s see if I can proceed. steed Posted June 1, 2012 Share #3498 Posted June 1, 2012 Fiat Supersonic it is. Well done. Here is a rather mediocre picture of the car (tradition dictates that you post the full image). To the winner... John W Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Andreas.Pichler Posted June 1, 2012 Share #3499 Posted June 1, 2012 Boys, you are so damned fast...have had never ever thought that this riddle would find its end today after I have seen John W "X-Files"-style crop and wondering if the truth is out there (or in my bookshelf) ;-) So I am waiting for the next one!
