Ivan is of course correct.

Wilson - Will you bring it home and complete the identification?

This is a Peugeot 402 Darl'mat Legère Special Sport Roadster designed according to one source by Jean Andreau but other sources say the designers were Georges Paulin and coachbuilder Marcel Pourtout, which given the appearance, seems more likely to me. They used a pushrod 2L 4 cylinder engine, mated to a Cotal electrically operated gearbox (actually a British Wilson pre-selector gearbox with the cable controlled shifts replaced by solenoids. Both Wilson and Cotal were owned by Anthony Lago, who also owned Talbot-Lago). Lovely looking cars, slightly let down by a rather pedestrian 4 cylinder engine, supposedly with 70 BHP but probably nearer 60. There was a story that Peugeot had intended to replace the 4 cylinder engine with a 3 litre 6 cylinder but WW2 happened. Cotal gearboxes, unlike their reputation, are actually pretty reliable and a pleasure to drive. Our Figoni and Falaschi (Phoney and Flashy) bodied Delahaye 135S, with interior by Louis Vuitton (originally owned by Coco Chanel) had a Cotal with a tiny stitched red leather football on the end of the 10cm long gear lever, which works in a pod just under the steering wheel.

Of course, Wilson got it.  This car is at the Simeone Foundation Museum in Philadelphia, and worth a visit if you're into cars (especially racing cars), and are anywhere near Philadelphia.

Your turn Wilson.
